Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ)-a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York City-seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Development Associate focused on special events and donor communications to join our Individual Philanthropy team.

The Associate will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Philanthropy and Assistant Director of Events & Special Projects, in this full-time position, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Individual Philanthropy team and all donor events and communications. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills and will provide strategic and administrative support for the Individual Philanthropy team, assisting with executing all event planning and donor communication. The Associate will balance independent initiative with effective collaboration across Development and the organization. This position is ideal for early career growth in philanthropy. The successful candidate will have an outgoing personality, a sense of humor, pro-active ambition, and a passion for contributing to the mission of a pre-eminent minority-led organization in the anti-poverty, education, and social services space. This role is located at the HCZ HQ offices in Harlem. It is a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days in office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2-3 years of related professional experience preferred, including internships; graduating college seniors and recent college graduates encouraged to apply
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook)

Who You Are

  • Advanced interpersonal communication skills with keen attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Strong ability to build and foster relationships leading to trust and credibility across all employee and donor levels
  • Strong writing and project management skills
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or equivalent software a plus
  • Experience working with project management programs (e.g. Monday.com or Basecamp) a plus
  • Passion for HCZ's mission

What You'll Do

Special Events

  • Provide dedicated support for our Special Events, including HCZ's signature annual fundraising event.
  • Assist with project management of event timelines and production of event collateral.
  • Assist with mailing the save the date, invitations, solicitation letters and acknowledgment receipts; manage event RSVP's; assist with tracking and updating donor information in the CRM in real-time.

Donor Communications

  • Work closely with the Individual Philanthropy team to manage and execute individual donor mailings and emails, including general stewardship reports, annual appeals, gift proposals, thank you letters, and meeting briefings.
  • Project manage the timely execution of print and digital communications including annual reports, strategic plans, and stewardship updates.
  • Maintain and curate a database of content, graphics, and photographs for use in donor communications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to strategize and integrate donor communication strategies with broader HCZ marketing and communication efforts.

Administration

  • Assist the Individual Philanthropy team with tracking and identifying new donors for cultivation, solicitation, engagement, and stewardship.
  • Support front-line efforts with annual fund donors, including managing assigned donors for cultivation, direct solicitations, stewardship, and pipeline strategies.
  • Assist with creating lists/queries, data entry, and cleanup in the CRM database.
  • Provide scheduling and data entry assistance.
  • Support Development events, webinars, and initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

  • This is a hybrid position with a requirement of a minimum of three days in office per week.

The salary range for the role is $50,000 - $58,000 per year. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-covered health insurance.
