Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing engineering projects from start to finish. This includes developing project scope and schedules, performing engineering calculations, coordinating with contractors, managing budgets, documenting progress, and ensuring successful integration into plant operations. The position also conducts training and ensures all assigned projects are completed accurately, on time, and within budget.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage engineering projects from concept to completion including project scope and deliverables
- Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets
- Track and control project spending and provide accurate forecasts
- Identify staffing needs and coordinate with department managers
- Oversee design, documentation, and bid package preparation
- Assign tasks to team members to oversee project personnel and manage technical work
- Review designs for compliance with standards and customer requirements
- Coordinate technical activities across departments to resolve engineering design and testing challenges
- Approve design changes and technical documentation
- Prepare and present project status and final reports
- Provide updates to project team, leadership, and stakeholders
Scope:
- Capital budget for plants varies between $40,000 and $1.8 million per year.
- Individual capital project sizes typically vary between $10,000 and $1,000,000 each
- Has the ability to deal with any plant technical issues including but not limited to: Air handling, , dust control, raw material and final product handling, warehousing and storage racks, electrical power and controls, flooring, conveyors, fire protection, bar coding/labeling, utilities, packaging equipment, structural issues, lighting, HVAC, mixing equipment, metal detection, check weighing, plant renovations, etc.
Knowledge and Experience:
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5-8 years related food industry experience
Travel:
- Must be able to travel up to 5%-10% of the time to various Griffith plants and vendor sites.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the engineering work environment is usually quiet. However, the noise level within the plant can be extremely loud and requires hearing protection in designated areas. Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors, including on ladders, roofs, and silos.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear well. The employee is frequently required to climb ladders, use access platforms, and perform elevated work, which may require the use of a safety harness. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds and may need to sit or stand for extended periods. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, including in low-light conditions.
