Compensation
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $131,200.00 to $218,700.00.

Position Details:
Grainger's GTG ML team seeks a Senior Applied ML Scientist to drive cutting-edge generative AI solutions. Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision Language Models (VLMs), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), Vector Retrieval and Agentic processes, we revolutionize the creation, classification, and optimization of content that gets used on Grainger.com to merchandise products and categories, as well as in Marketing and Sales material.
Chicago, IL is the preferred location, but we will also consider candidates who are remote provided you are willing to travel occasionally to Chicago for onboarding or meetings.
You Will:
- Design, build, monitor, and maintain agentic processes to address Grainger's product media needs.
- Utilize a broad array of technologies and techniques including Deep Learning, LLMs, VLMs, Fine-tuning, Prompt optimization to enhance the way Grainger manages rich content.
- Work closely with other ML scientists, engineers, and product managers to design and develop AI/ML solutions for scale and integrate your models into Grainger's platforms. Optimize AI/ML models for scalable deployment.
- Build and maintain AI/ML pipelines.
- Work backward from customer use cases, design, implement, and deploy ML models that solve the use cases at scale.
- Take part in strategic planning and direction of our ML initiatives, ensuring they align with business objectives and drive high value
- Demonstrate and present concepts, designs, applications, project deliverables to the team.
- Share your knowledge and expertise with team members, fostering an environment of learning and growth within the broader team
You Have:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry delivering ML solutions
- MS or PhD degree in a field such as Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Huggingface
- Experience building and/or deploying production ML systems
- Experience building models and pipelines with data platforms such as AWS Sagemaker, Databricks
- Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions to engineering teams and business audiences
Bonus
- Familiarity with machine learning libraries like LangChain, LlamaIndex, Autogen or Crew.ai
- Experience deploying models into the cloud with tooling like Docker & Kubernetes
- Experience automating data augmentation and refresh using Airflow and Bash Scripting
