Background

SMAs and models are two of the largest growth opportunities within the US retail marketplace, comprising multi-$tn AUM segments growing at double-digits. Goldman Sachs, one of the world's largest asset managers with an industry-leading Separately Managed Account (SMA) and multi-asset franchise, is uniquely positioned to capture the opportunity of jointly addressing models and SMAs.

Goldman Sachs is hiring to accelerate the build-out of Wealth Customized Solutions (WCS), a group whose capabilities consist of:
  • A range of custom portfolio solutions to help CIOs and Advisors with their core portfolio design incorporating Funds, ETFs, SMAs, Alts
  • A suite of SMA offerings including direct indexing, active equity and fixed income SMAs
  • Role Overview

    The SMA Business Development Specialists will play a pivotal role in growing our SMA franchise. The Specialists are the go-to experts in Goldman's SMA platform (DI, FI SMA, Fundamental Equity, Option overlay) and are the best representing the capabilities with compelling collateral materials. Specialists partner with Goldman's wealth sales team to drive SMA sales by taking a "solutions-based" approach to profiling advisors' needs, educating them on how to scale and personalize their practice using SMA solutions and becoming the advisor's essential partner by providing ongoing excellent service.

    This position will require a deep understanding of financial markets, investment products, and exceptional client relationship management skills. Specialists are regionally located in major markets (Boston, NYC, Atlanta, Florida, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, LA, and others) and will be supported by a centralized rapid response service team that fulfill requests for proposals, transition analysis, demos, customization, service requests, etc.

    The key to success in the role is to apply a solutions-based value proposition that harnesses the breadth of Goldman Sach's capabilities and approach the role like a business owner -- build strong relationships with sales partners and centers of influence (COIs), be accountable for territory rotation maintain a full calendar of events and meetings, and rigorous disciplined pipeline management.

    Responsibilities

    1. Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and nurture strong relationships with sales partners, centers of influence, RIAs, PWAs, Family Offices, and elite Advisors.
    • Be the essential partner to the advisor, providing solutions and best practices tailored to UHNW investors.

    2. SMA Product Knowledge:

    • Develop an in-depth understanding of Goldman Sachs' SMA offerings (DI, FI, Option overlay, transition management) and other relevant capabilities like Alts, Exchange Funds, Custody platform, etc.
    • Be an expert on market trends, competitive landscape, and wealth sponsor platform to provide informed advice to advisors.

    3. Business Development:

    • Disciplined pipeline management to close leads, acquire new advisors, deepen relationships with existing advisors and cross-sell solutions.
    • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to develop and implement strategies to attract and retain advisors.

    Skills/Experience

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in business development capacity.
    • Expert knowledge of SMAs, particularly tax-managed direct indexing.
    • Experience with RIAs, Family Offices, PWAs.
    • Business builder with an entrepreneurship-like spirit.
    • Tenacious commercial animal and sweats the details.
    • Flexible, responsive, and self-starting personality.
    • Deep understanding of the asset management and wealth advisory markets.
    • Team player with demonstrated capacity to work seamlessly with a wide variety of personalities across the organization.
    • Intellectual agility and pragmatic personality, with the talent to adapt to an evolving environment.

    Salary Range
    The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$290000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
