RESPONSIBILITIES

About the role

The Agile Coach I is an expert in agility focused on expanding the capabilities and effectiveness of scrum masters, teams and their leaders. As an agent of change, this role applies an in-depth knowledge of agile principles and values to help organizations accelerate value delivery through increased collaboration and team empowerment.

In this role you will:

  • Guiding and coaching the Scrum Masters and organization on how to apply agile values and principles, and use the Scrum Framework to delight customers
  • Assessing the Scrum practices of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of effectiveness
  • Influence organizational structures, systems, and cultures to align with Agile principles and values to maximize value and delight customers
  • Supporting and educating Product Management leadership, especially with respect to giving autonomy to Product Owners
  • Facilitate creation and communication of change vision for agile adoption.
  • One-on-one coaching with leadership.
  • Help with defining success metrics for agile adoption.
  • Participation and facilitation of an internal guiding coalition committed to the agile adoption.
  • Facilitation of retrospectives for the overall agile adoption initiative
  • Help with organizing and presenting at CoE sessions
  • Help with identification and removal of impediments that are organizational and beyond the control of the Scrum Teams
  • Facilitation of portfolio level planning and establishing WIP limits for the organization
  • Work as a Sr. Scrum Master as required


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must exhibit expert knowledge of agile frameworks including Scrum, Kanban and agile at scale (ex. SAFe or Nexus).
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuous learning mindset
  • Experience facilitating Agile training and workshops
  • Exceptional coaching and mentoring skills at the team and management levels
  • Ability to teach and train on Agile, Scrum, Kanban at a level accessible to beginners with the ability to deep dive for advanced topics
  • A change agent; progressively challenging the team and organization to continuously improve
  • Excellent understanding of product and sprint backlog tracking, burn down metrics, and velocity
  • Strong negotiation, leadership, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge, skills, and ability working in a collaborative team environment
  • High maturity of diplomacy and ability to see and rationalize multiple points of view
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a diverse leadership team
  • Servant leader who Supports the development team, the product owner, and the organization
  • High Emotional Intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills)
  • Ability to understand GM Financials business; apply knowledge and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions.
  • Ability to provide leadership through influence, inspiration, collaboration and teamwork.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity while successfully managing work demands and pressure.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent work or military experience
    • 7+ years of relevant work experience:
      • 3+ years working in an agile environment
      • 2+ years as a Scrum Master with scrum, Kanban and/or scaling framework experience
      • 2+ years coaching agile teams and Scrum Masters

Licenses

  • Scrum Master Certification CSM, PSM I, PMI-ACP required
  • Advanced Scrum Master Certification: PSM II (Scrum.org) or A-CSM (Scrum Alliance) required
  • Certified in at least one scaling framework (ex. Nexus/SPS or SAFe)
