Job Description Summary

Role Summary/Purpose This role will support GE Vernova Financial Services (FS) commercial, underwriting and portfolio teams in evaluating US and Global renewable, thermal and energy transition investments assets based on regulatory, legislative and market design dynamics, using a variety of tools including power market models such as GE MAPS and Plexos.

The incumbent will assist in driving GE Vernova and FS strategic direction in the Energy Transition, including evaluation of transmission grid reliability, energy technologies (hydrogen, carbon capture, electrification, sustainable fuels, next gen storage and nuclear), market design standards and broader energy policy.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Identify and build cases for investment in specific renewable, thermal and energy transition opportunities by providing rationale for acquisition and support to deal team based on energy market expertise.
  • Build emissions, hydrogen and carbon markets center of expertise across all industries, including fundamental analysis and forecasting of carbon markets, hydrogen markets and other climate policy
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support in the review and assessment of relevant carbon, clean energy and sustainability policies, the analysis of the impacts for GE Vernova, and the development and execution of strategic plans to achieve desired policy goals.
  • Develop and provide carbon pricing view for compliance markets globally, low carbon fuel standards and voluntary programs
  • Develop and provide pricing view on renewable energy credit, guarantee of origin and other green attributes
  • Develop and provide hydrogen pricing view for relevant industries and applications
  • Assess and interpret power market model results and help ensure that forecast results are valid, consistent and well specified.
  • Provide insights and analyses on how specific energy, capacity and ancillary service markets operate; how plants are bid and/or contracted and dispatched; how transmission system operates; how environmental, transmission and other factors impact unit operations; how off-take strategies for decarbonized electrons and fuels are structured; and how other value driving factors influence project performance and value.
  • Support other strategic initiatives and activities as warranted or assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Economics, Power Systems, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent quantitative field
  • At least 8 years of combined energy and finance experience.
  • Experience with power markets and/or asset valuation and acquisitions associated with power generation.
  • Experience with carbon markets and/or asset valuation and acquisitions associated with enhanced oil recovery, carbon sequestration.
  • Experience working with/understanding of power sector and commodity price forecasting tools and data.
  • Experience working with/understanding of emissions and renewable energy credit forecasting tools and data with specific experience with carbon markets.
  • Project execution experience.

Desired Characteristics

• Proven track record of successful project execution.

  • MBA, PhD, equivalent graduate level degree or additional 8 years relevant work experience with management consulting firm, power producer and/or power trading company.
  • Business development experience within the power sector and exposure to generating portfolio management/optimization.

• Excellent structured thinking and written and oral communications skills.

• Strong team player with excellent influencing and leadership skills.

• Can-do attitude, preference for hands-on analysis.

• Potential to manage power assets.
