Rotating Machines - Renewal Parts: Design Execution Coordinator

As part of the Renewal Parts team of GE Vernova Power Conversion - Rotating Machines Peterborough ('GEPC-RMP'), you will play a significant role in serving our customers by providing spare parts and technical design solutions for GEPC-RMP global fleet of large industrial motors and generators. GEPC-RMP has been producing rotating electrical equipment for more than 130 years, producing motors up to 100,000 HP. Our machines are found in a variety of critical applications, including marine, industrial and power generation.

You will deliver technical design and modeling solutions by collaborating with external CAD design providers to address customer needs in retrofits, upgrades, and spare parts. Thus, you will coordinate engineering design and support for the Renewal Parts team with respect to quotes, orders, and project executions. This involves close interaction with both the internal engineering team and external suppliers to meet customer requirements.

The successful candidate will report to the Rotating Machines Renewal Parts Team Leader.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

As a Design Coordinator in Renewal Parts team, you will work independently and interact closely with Renewal Parts services specialists, project managers, suppliers, external CAD design providers, and colleagues in mechanical, electrical, insulations, and controls engineering disciplines to:

  • Define component design parameters using engineering manufacturing instructions, engineering design standards, automations, and reference designs. Layout and model components to aid in analysis and manufacture of legacy, retrofit, new designs.
  • Manage and deliver creation and approval of drawings and bill of materials throughout the design cycle. Compile instruction packages which include drawing markups, documents, and references for external design providers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to reduce re-work and improve cycle time and design hours. Lead and collaborate in the preparation of systematic plans that outline the design execution strategy.
  • Identify specific parts required by the customer based on part descriptions and legacy GE design data.
  • Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and design support during the manufacturing, testing, and shipment of components and assemblies.
  • Analyze and validate the design, material, and process to overcome obsolescence in legacy GE designs

Required Qualifications

  • Technician/Technology Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical technology, or equivalent

Desired Characteristics

  • Competency in applying technical design, quality, and manufacturing knowledge of legacy GE rotating machines to design various components & assemblies from manufacturer's and customer's point of view.
  • Able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and documentation, and communicate effectively with team members, customers, and external suppliers.
  • Proven experience with the legacy GE Peterborough and GE Schenectady rotating machines product designs with good understanding of various of sub-components and the interfaces.
  • Able to pivot, prioritize, and plan when activities do not align with the committed objectives or timetables.
  • Technical experience in design, modeling, creating drawings and bills of materials
  • Expertise in 2D/3D design tools: Creo and AutoCAD preferred to perform traditional Renewal Parts design tasks pertaining to the legacy GE Peterborough and GE Schenectady component.
  • Experience with Bills of Material and Drawing database, Teamcenter preferred to perform traditional Renewal Parts design tasks pertaining to the legacy GE Peterborough and GE Schenectady component.
  • Familiarity with medium/high voltage rotating electric machines and components design with background knowledge in various topics, including electromagnetics, insulations & electrical materials, instrumentations & accessories, and power electronics components & controls.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, especially in developing technical instructions to fellow CAD designers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Identify omissions and mistakes from legacy designs and propose viable solutions
  • Proven ability to deliver on-time and to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced design work environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong sense of curiosity with the ability and willingness to learn new and unfamiliar products, technology, and skills.
  • Strong ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional and diverse teams including sales/marketing, engineers, project managers, and logistics professionals.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Solution oriented and pragmatic, with a commitment to continuous improvement and taking ownership of technical design challenges.
