Product Design Engineer

Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Product Design Engineer drives new product development and production initiatives for kitchen and cleaning products. Bringing expertise in mechanical engineering and a passion for consumer goods, the Product Design Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring product innovation, quality, and functionality. Responsibilities include defining engineering excellence, manufacturing details, conducting stress analyses, and building proof of concept prototypes.

Duties:

  • Generate innovative product concepts through sketching, ideation sessions, and market research.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies for new products and product improvements using SolidWorks
  • Create 2D technical drawings, specifications, and potentially Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Build, test, and iterate on physical prototypes (using 3D printing, model making, etc.) to evaluate functionality, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and engineer kitchen and cleaning products, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company guidelines.
  • Research and apply knowledge of materials (especially plastics), manufacturing processes (especially injection molding), and assembly techniques relevant to consumer goods.
  • Consider user experience, ergonomics, and CMF (Color, Material, Finish) [If applicable] during the design process.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in ensuring designs are optimized for manufacturing (DFM/DFA) and cost-effectiveness
  • Stay current with design trends, new technologies, materials, and competitor products.
  • Manage product production using tools such as Centric, Jira, and Wrike.
  • Attend trade shows as needed.
  • Maintain the company's 2D and 3D Product Designs database.
  • Provide technical support for internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with strong design portfolio/interest), Industrial Design (with strong technical skills/portfolio), or a closely related field.
  • 0-4 years of relevant professional experience or significant internship experience in product design or mechanical engineering roles.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design process, sketching, CAD modeling, and ideally prototyping/finished products is required.
  • Proficient in CAD, Solidworks preferred.
  • Strong sketching, visualization, and concept generation skills.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental mechanical principles, material properties, and basic manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, workshop tools, model making).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of creativity.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with housewares, kitchenware, and/or cleaning products is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, with in-office presence required Tuesday through Thursday.
