Job Description

The employee will be responsible for the design and coordination of mechanical systems for hydro speed governor (e.g. P&ID, pumps, valves, actuators, system accumulators, instrumentation). He / She will also be responsible to provide technical support for supply chain and Construction & Commissioning activities related to hydro generators.

Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Read and understand customer specifications to generate inputs for design team and deliverables for customer.
  • Deliver work packages for projects or programs using technical guidelines, leading design reviews and implementing feedback of experience (FOE).
  • Produce schematics, technical specifications, testing procedures and all documentation required for scope according to customer's requirements and GE practices.
  • Supervise draftsmen for the creation of project drawings.
  • Supervise and support suppliers/sub-contractors.
  • Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, drawings (supported by draftsmen) and BOM's without supervision.
  • Collaborate with and assist project management team when required.
  • Support supply chain for project purchase and new supplier development, when required.
  • Evaluate and act on non-conformities reports.
  • Provide site support for commissioning and erection.
  • Organize and/or participate on design reviews.
  • Provide support on tendering activities.
  • Perform Site Survey.
  • Collaborate with consulting engineers and experts for FOE, design validation and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Participate, on meetings with customers and suppliers for document approval and or NCR discussion.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Fluent in written and spoken English/Portuguese
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and sizing (e.g. P&ID, pumps, valves, actuators, system accumulators, instrumentation)
  • Governing System Calculation and components sizing
  • General knowledge of drawing standards and rules
  • Pro-activeness, sense of urgency, autonomy
  • Hydro Powerplant experience / knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a global matrix team environment
  • Ability to learn & adapt to business needs
  • Planning, organizational skills and team player
  • Pro-activeness, sense of urgency, autonomy
  • Must be results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Good problem solver
  • Availability to travel occasionally, including by plane
