Job Description Summary

For an HVDC project, we are looking for a Planning Engineer to execute the project Schedule as per the elaborated strategy and maintain project on time and within the budget.

The goal of this role is to ensure the right rigor around schedule and cost management processes to deliver project on-time and within budget. With focus and rigor around tools, processes, operating rhythm, and people.

The position will report operationally to the Senior Lead Planner Engineer of the HVDC project and Functionality to the Regional Project Control leader.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Overall

  • Build integrated HVDC project schedule during tender according to GE standards and customer requirements.
  • Build HVDC project baseline in accordance with both GE global standards and contract requirements, gains approval of client and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain project schedule and resource forecasts throughout the project lifecycle in accordance with both GE global standards and contract requirements
  • Analyse schedule and trends and communicate forecasted schedule risk to project team, drives risk mitigation proposals
  • Maintain a register of potential schedule and cost risks in collaboration with the Risk Manager
  • Checks and controls schedule movements, compares with current scope and progress as well as with previous forecast. Also compares with productivity factors and validates accuracy of future task durations.
  • Ensure that forecast task durations and logic are understood and committed by the task owners
  • Produces and communicates internal and external project reporting of project status in accordance with both GE global standards and contract requirements
  • Collaborates with 3rd parties on project schedule interfaces including maintenance of an interface register
  • Presents all time schedule data in a transparent way, attends project and management reviews to present schedule status
  • Provides time related calculations to ensure change order schedule/cost estimates are accurate
  • Aligns with Cost Controller to ensure reconciliation between P6 schedule and approved cost phasing
  • Support project close out ensuring tasks for compilation of final records are accurately represented and prioritised
  • Ensure quality of the project schedule and forecast accuracy.
  • Ensure accuracy of schedule alignment with resource and cost budgets (actuals and forecasting)
  • Ensure collaboration with functional task and resource owners to find strategies to reduce durations and manhours
  • Ensure alignment to established standards (WBS, process, procedures, tools usage)
  • Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the project controls team

  • Good Knowledge and commitment with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes at GSI level and Project Controls Function
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner
  • Identify areas of opportunity for standardization / optimization and where possible participate in a Kaizen or similar lean event to implement any identified improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified either in engineering or project management discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years planning HVDC and/or large turnkey projects
  • Deep domain knowledge of planning and use of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge of cost control function and interfaces with project schedule
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% - International and Domestic

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience as a planner on a HVDC project.
  • Deep domain knowledge of planning and use of Primavera
  • Data handling skills (Excel, SAP...)
  • Communication (English language a must)
