Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Special Events, the Enterprise Hospitality & Event Specialist will be lead support for all Special Events and Hospitality Operations occurring in the Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts (CHCA) Applied Learning Enterprise Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answering enquiries; both through web and phone messages.
  • Confirming space availability with Academic Interface.
  • Generating client quotes based on event profitability.
  • Responsible for applying for Special Occasion Permits (SOPS) as generated by the AGCO as needed for events, per the Liquor License Act.
  • Following up / confirming reservations, conducting site inspections for potential clients, and generating individual event work plans and timelines.
  • Working in Caterease Event Software System to generate new accounts, groups, and events, and maintaining the database with up-to-date information (i.e., menus, recipes, venue lists, etc.).
  • Will be the lead GBC staff onsite for events/operations.
  • Leading and guiding hospitality students on event execution; reinforcing service standards, set-up requirements, first impressions, guest interactions.
  • Coordinating with Chef Technologist on the food and ensure any allergies and special requests are taken care of.
  • Responsible for event "tear down" (i.e., ensuring outside rentals are consolidated and ready for pick-up, GBC property/wares are cleaned and are put away included unused product, client event paraphernalia is removed, etc.).
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Two-year diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Hospitality or Events Management, Food and Beverage Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working in hospitality, retail or food and beverage/hospitality, supervising staff including special events, banquets, catering, reservationist, or other guest-focused employment in a high-volume environment; experience in training staff on hospitality/retail floor security procedures.
Skills and Attributes:

  • Intermediate computer skills; knowledge working with a POS operating systems, online food service reservation system and/or professional catering and event software is an asset.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to discuss customer's needs and preferences effectively.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; solid time-management skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to travel between campuses.
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.

Please note: This is a 100% in-person role. Special events may require evenings and weekend work.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
