Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
The Role
Battery Cell Technical Specialist with responsibility to design development and validation tests, train new engineers, coordinate activities for battery cell development across regions and organizations, manage virtual modeling activities, and develop processes to provide quality data efficiently. A technical specialist works closely with development teams, the hardware release community, virtual analysis teams, and others to identify optimal methods of verifying design and providing feedback.

What You'll Do
- Battery Cell Development : Subject Matter Expert (SME) in battery cell technology, including chemistry, performance, and safety. Involved in FMEA creation and reviews.
- Battery Cell Testing and Validation : Lead for battery cell testing methods and validation processes. Define system level performance attributes and requirements.
- Battery Cell Manufacturing : Working with Virtual Design, Development & Validation (VDDV) and Manufacturing teams to understand variation and virtualization from raw material to virtual cell validation.
- Development & Validation Procedures : Oversee and approve conversion of development procedures to GMW standard work.
- Global Coordination : Coordinate with battery hardware HRC, VDDV, and program teams to drive hardware-based development to virtual.
- Technical Leadership : Lead technical direction for new battery cell technology testing methods.
- Mentorship : Mentor development engineers and provide training sessions as needed.
- Industry Representation : GM representative at SAE and other forums
- Certification : Engage with type approval agencies to achieve certification for GM battery cell programs.
- Process Improvement : Own and maintain development templates that list tests available for battery cell development and validation.
- Data Analysis : Utilize and create post-processing tools to assure data quality and track usefulness of data in generation of final reports.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Interact with facilities, technical leads, calibration teams, hardware release engineers, and others to improve process and test efficiency.
- Standard Work Processes : Develop and implement standard work processes and procedures globally.
- Technical Presentations : Organize and present high-level technical presentations to engineering management as needed.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Minimum 7 years of battery cell development or research experience.
- Fundamental knowledge in areas of battery cell technology, electrochemistry, performance, and safety.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of Li-ion cell design, virtual analysis, assembly, and testing methods
- BS in Engineering, Chemistry or Physics.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data and make sound recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority.
- Demonstrated ability to complete vague and ambiguous assignments with little direction.
- Demonstrated ability to present complex technical topics in forums such as PAPIR.
- Demonstrated positive leadership traits.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Extensive development experience in battery cell technology.
- MS in Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics.
- Understanding of common analysis tools such as MATLAB and Comsol.
- Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related areas.
