This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business

The Role
Systems Engineering is a multidisciplinary function responsible for integrating the complex and interconnected systems that make up the modern automobile. This role combines System Engineer and System Integration Engineer responsibilities, with a focus on supporting system requirements and integration for the Propel Vehicle Feature. Key activities include developing technical specifications, DFMEA, and system safety deliverables, as well as leading integration, testing, and issue resolution for propulsion systems.
This position collaborates closely with System Safety, Propulsion Software and Calibration, Propulsion Hardware, Advanced Work, and multiple program teams.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Track program applicability of features and system variants
- Troubleshoot and resolve vehicle-level integration issues (hardware, software, calibration, wiring)
- Document and analyze hardware/software anomalies in partnership with Validation
- Collaborate with algorithm and calibration teams to resolve issues
- Verify feature functionality across system variants through bench and vehicle testing
- Conduct evaluations at release milestones to identify gaps early
- Partner with feature owners and validation engineers to ensure comprehensive test coverage
- Support automated regression testing and performance validation
- Mentor and support less experienced Systems Integration Engineers
- Provide program-focused support, including development trips, assembly plant/field issue resolution, durability fleet, and benchmarking activities
- Assist in defining evaluation parameters, collecting results, and interpreting findings
- Develop and release System Technical Specifications and DFMEA
- Ensure system requirements meet feature and safety standards
- Participate in feature workgroups, Fault Tree Analysis, and V&V planning
- Lead system integration and issue resolution throughout the development cycle
- Collaborate with subsystem and component teams to optimize system design
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- BS in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant
- 5+ years of product development experience
- Knowledge of system development, verification/validation, and vehicle manufacturing processes
- Experience with engine controls, hardware design, and failure modes
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, lead initiatives, and mentor others
- Open-minded, collaborative, and results-driven
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestic
- This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis and successfully complete a Motor Vehicle Report review
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred qualifications)
- MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, or Computer Science Engineering
- Expertise in Systems Engineering methods and tools (e.g., DOORs, DNG)
- Strong understanding of vehicle integration, powertrain controls, and propulsion systems
- Knowledge of GM serial data communications, distributed control systems, and diagnostics
- Experience with embedded software development and testing tools
- Familiarity with GM Global Vehicle Development Process, SUFS, PRTS, INCA, CAN tools
- Background in propulsion technologies (engine, transmission, electrification, torque control)
- DFSS Blackbelt certification
- Proven track record of innovation, complex problem-solving, and mentoring
