Sr. Buyer Rail & Yard Management

Description

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Industrial Engineering, or related fields (required)
  • 5+ years of work experience in the related fields (preferred)
  • Finance/Engineering/Logistics Certifications (preferred)
  • Advanced English
  • MS Office, Tableau, MySQL knowledge

Activities include but not limited to:

  • Sourcing event bid strategy & management
  • Coordination and alignment of Pre-RFQ and RFQ package components including Terms & Conditions, SOR, RFQ documentation
  • Strong collaboration with GM legal to draft and improve terms and conditions of complex rail contracts
  • Complete leadership sourcing recommendation / alignment with 100% on-time sourcing
  • Management of sourcing documentation related to bid events in adherence to the GM Audit Services
  • Daily supplier interface activities on all commercial items
  • Support commercial budget and cost reduction (joint process improvement) activities
  • Support logistics supplier management initiatives including "Strategic Supplier Engagement"
    • Nurture relationship with strategic suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolution
    • Participation in development and review of supplier KPIs
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers
  • Perform rate management activities including spot buys, fuel surcharge updates, customs tax, annual rail contract pricing adjustments, rate analysis and payment issue inquiries
  • Provide network and operational support through participation in crisis meetings and execution of the commercial responsibilities of Intra Mexico rail lanes for Material and Vehicles.
  • Strong cross functional collaboration required with vehicle logistics operations, network engineering, finance, technical accounting, and future program teams to create balanced recommendations for total enterprise benefit
  • Support cost studies with future program and network optimization teams allowing for new vehicle launch in the most efficient mode and further optimizations over life of program
  • Manage contract pipelines and keep pipeline updated

  • Strong multi-faceted experience in Logistics and Supply Chains including working knowledge of various logistics modes and supply base dynamics
  • Strong Commercial Negotiation experience
  • Robust experience in complex bid and contract management
  • Working knowledge in data analysis and bid management software
  • Working experience in data analytics environment

Skills:

  • Strong purchasing negotiation skills in logistics or other services
  • Strong understanding of the network optimization concepts and process
  • Strong Technical capabilities including Data Mining and Analysis including knowledge of SQL, Tableau and MS Access (preferred)
  • Ability to manage complex projects
  • High Analytic Capability in situations which are ambiguous and complex
  • Strong Senior Leadership presentation skills
  • High level of oral and written communications skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to both work independently and as a member of cross-functional teams
  • Ability to lead a project from start to finish
  • Detail oriented and Data Driven
  • High process focus
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Capable of interpreting market data
  • Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes
  • Energetic and passionate to find solutions to complex supply chain problems
