Work Arrangement:

Hybrid :This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

The Role

As a Seat Trim Cover Integration Engineer, you are responsible to lead the full development and requirement definition for the Trim Covers of all GM assigned vehicle program seating solutions. A considerable amount of creativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgment. You will design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Perform engineering design evaluations. May develop a range of products.

What You'll Do:

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Leading technical reviews to enable Integration of Seating Trim Covers and Trim Materials during the full Seat Development Process through surface development, material selection, sourcing, design definition, prototype build, and production manufacturing through launch.
  • Driving Seat Engineering and Design guidance for Studio Surface math releases that address all critical trim interfaces to Plastics, Foam, Structure, and Components and execution of the Seat Trim Cover to achieve all seat performance and appearance objectives.
  • Partnering with GM Materials, Purchasing, Costing, and Design for the development and release of vehicle program Statement of Requirements (SOR) for Seat Trim Covers, Fabric Rolled Goods, Vinyl Rolled Goods, and Leather commodities to drive performance, build execution, and critical imperatives (cost, mass, timing, DFA, etc.).
  • Collaborating with JIT Suppliers to develop on-time, production design, patterning, and manufacturing execution detail for Seat Soft Trim Covers of assigned vehicle program to ensure high level craftsmanship and seat system requirement achievement through PDTs, Virtual Design Reviews, Physical Appearance Reviews, and Launch activities at the GM assembly, Tier 1 Seat JIT, Trim Cover assembly, and Material Cutting plants.
  • Utilize engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and system programs.
  • Effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and rigorous program management.
  • You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with perfection.

This role requires an experienced engineer to lead and drive multi-functional product development teams including collaboration with the following groups:

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities ( Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or alternative degree with proper experience required

    Minimum 5+ years of relevent experience required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with automotive OEM's and Seat suppliers developing and executing Seat Soft Trim Covers in development, engineering, and manufacturing operations to support new vehicle programs
  • Balancing business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing
  • Comfortable working with diverse, multidisciplinary, and cross-cultural teams
  • Ability to deal optimally with ambiguity and forward-thinking environment

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university preferred
  • Automotive Seating design, development and manufacturing experience including Trim development, trim development tools, and core automotive engineering disciplines
  • Knowledge of seating comfort requirements, industry seating requirements, FMVSS regulations and GM technical specifications and engineering processes
  • Strong knowledge of pattern development and working use of trim flattening software (NX/MasterTrim), trim nesting software (Gerber/Optitex) and cost modeling tools
  • Ability to analyze surface data and review designs utilizing CAD/math-based software (NX/Vis-Mockup)
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods (i.e., Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) - Green belt certification or higher, Red-X, Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA and GD&T Management
