Onsite This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Toledo, Ohio on a full-time basis.
The Role
The Workplace Safety Group - Safety Operations role is to interface regularly and directly with plant personnel and leadership, the local joint safety team, contractors onsite, and the global safety team.
This role may require some off shift hours or weekends, as needed. Participate in equipment buyoffs at offsite original equipment manufacturer build sites, and onsite. Ensure contractors are adhering to GM safety practices while on the premises.
This safety professional is also responsible for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, instructing, and coaching to site/functional operations. In addition, they are responsible for assisting site leadership with implementation, maintenance, and compliance of all GM Workplace Safety and regulatory requirements.

- Analyzing Workplace Safety data and communicating results and trends along with continuous improvement opportunities.
- Assessing site Workplace Safety performance and conformance to requirements.
- Managing the site as Subject Matter Expert on Workplace Safety requirements.
- Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety cultural transformation.
- Developing and educating site employees to drive Workplace Safety cultural transformation.
- Developing partnerships with key site personnel including Manufacturing and Non-Manufacturing Leadership, Human Resources, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics resources, and Health Services.
- Summarize critical issues and escalate to leadership when required for support.
- Flexible work schedule for inspections, especially during non-production down times.
- Working in partnership with the local site leadership to support Workplace Safety culture.
- Work alongside joint safety team to maintain the Workplace Safety System and achieve site goals.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- BS degree in Environment, Health & Safety or related field required
- 2 years of experience in the Environmental, Health, and Safety field
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication
- Ability to analyze situations and develop appropriate safety measures
- Available to work alternate shift schedules, including weekends and holidays, if needed
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master's degree in Environment, Health & Safety or related field
- Safety certification holder (CSP, GSP, ASP, etc.)
