Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Wentzville on a full-time basis.
The Role:
As a Lean Material Strategy (LMS) Lead you will implement automation to drive material optimization. Scope and manage automation projects from conception to implementation. Work closely with union personal on material automation strategy including automation repair. Work cross-functionally and across-levels to gain buy-in and implement material automation. Primary focus is material delivery automation, however, Cobot automation is also within scope.

You will streamline and continuously improve material flow to enhance efficiency. Ensure overall plant Lean Material Strategies: material flow, floor space, storage areas, personnel, automation, equipment, layouts, containers.
Extended working hours, six-day weeks and varying shift schedules will be required, at times, to support program development and launch execution.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Integrate Lean Material Strategies (LMS) and General Motors Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.
- Drive & execute best practice and common standards, processes, and lean designs across all general assembly operations to meet plant optimization targets.
- Standardize and track internal and corporate benchmarks for material flow and material handling processes.
- Monitor adherence to recommended safety procedures and ergonomic guidelines.
- Develop repair strategy for automation equipment.
- Drive problem solving resolution for throughput and quality issues.
- Develop, track, and implement budget allocation.
- Provide on-site support for execution and readiness activities related to steady state and major launches.
- Provide updates to customers and plant leadership, as required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as high analytical ability.
- Up to 5% travel.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain (Material, Packaging, Industrial) or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others.
- Strong analytical, computer, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions when dealing with ambiguity.
- High level of analytical ability & problem solving where problems are unusual and difficult.
- Basic understanding of equipment and equipment repair processes.
- Knowledge of work measurement/work standards, ergonomic principles, material optimization, and facility layout strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of supply chain process.
- High level of communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to present findings to all levels of the organization.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Access, Project, Word, and PowerPoint).
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing.
- Proven project management experience.
- Skilled in influence and negotiation.
- Track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
