The Role
In your role, you will be responsible to perform 3D design and supporting analysis of engine combustion and airflow system components for future engines as well as design and procure parts for single cylinder engine testing of combustion systems.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with the Combustion Technical Specialist, Product Line Combustion Engineer, Engine System Analyst, and Engine Architect to determine the requirements for the combustion and airflow system of a future engine.
- Collaborate with the Engine Architect to determine the key base engine architectural features impacting combustion (i.e. bore and stroke....)
- Design and analyze multiple cylinder head alternatives (valve angles, spacing, sizes, ports, and combustion chambers) against the requirements. Typical analysis includes geometric flame progression, injector spray pattern, piston-to-valve clearance, geometric compression ratio, steady-state mass air flow and mixture motion.
- Evaluate the proposed designs for compliance to GM component Best Practices.
- Collaborate with the Combustion Product Development Team (PDT) to down-select the alternatives (based on steady-state and transient analysis of the system).
- Design the combustion and airflow system components for Single Cylinder Engine (SCE) testing. Construct a 3D master model of the SCE to facilitate component design.
- Construct and communicate a Bill of Material for the SCE.
- Procure the combustion and airflow system components for Single Cylinder Engine testing.
- Conduct studies of the effects of component variation on the performance of the combustion and airflow system.
- Collaborate with the Combustion PDT to generate additional alternatives based on analysis and SCE test results.
