Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This full-time position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. However, this position requires an employee to be onsite at least three times per week (Tue., Wed., Thurs.)

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation benefits. All relocation would be at the expense of the candidate for this position.

The Role:

The positions involve significant in-vehicle and lab work, along with related analytical and performance verification activities. Diagnostic Strategists engage in cross-functional teams, are expected to handle multiple projects/priorities, and frequently need to balance planned and unplanned work.

A typical week includes in-vehicle calibration & testing, lab/bench/analytical activities, and collaboration with algorithm/software and hardware engineers. Diagnostic Strategists participate in offsite development trips as well as onsite program team vehicle evaluations.

  • Develop and document requirements required to calibrate an automotive system
  • Design and manage key strategic interfaces within systems to enable component reuse and adherence to best practices
  • Coordinate requirements development with other activities
  • Provide support to other engineers for root cause analysis
  • Strong ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data
  • Design Tests to efficiently identify opportunities for calibration improvements
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Identify and document system vulnerabilities and create mitigation action plans; track corrective actions
  • Plan and execute overall diagnostic development plan
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance for other diagnostic calibrators as they develop and optimize diagnostic calibrations
  • Develop and optimize diagnostic calibrations to meet performance and timing requirements utilizing calibration standard work
  • Identify and procure resources needed for diagnostic calibration development
  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/dyno, or customer issues
  • Represent the diagnostic calibration team to various program execution and strategy forums
  • Follow all Safety Precautions and Requirements, and treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics and/or hardware development
  • Knowledge of and passion for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • Good project planning and leadership skills
  • DFSS Black Belt
  • Experience with tools commonly used in calibration: INCA, Vehicle Spy, CRETA, MDA, Matlab/Simulink

What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of automotive controls, calibration, diagnostics and/or hardware development
  • 2+ years of on-board vehicle diagnostic experience (calibration, controls, and/or integration)
  • Masters Degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of software and/or calibration development processes
  • Current or previous role in providing technical direction to others
  • Experience with interacting with senior leaders
  • Knowledge of OBD Regulations (CARB, China6)
