Work Arrangement
Onsite - This position requires the employee to be onsite full time. The primary work location will be at the General Motors Global Technical Center PPO-S / Global Artisan Innovation Center (GAIC), located in Warren, MI. The position requires the ability to work on-site during holidays, weekends, and evenings as needed, be on call outside of normal working hours, work overtime and off-shift when necessary, and travel up to 5% of the time.
The Role
The GAIC, formerly known as PPO, has developed into the General Motors central hub of expertise in Tooling, Process, Fabrication, and Technology development supporting all areas of Engineering and Manufacturing.

The Machining Tooling Stamping division of the Artisan Center is the heartbeat of the Artisan Center that initializes and drives the plant to support and exceed GM's goals.
This role will lead both salary and hourly UAW Local 160 employees to deliver on all BPD metrics along with strong sense of understanding on how to grow and expand the business beyond our current capabilities.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facility, including leading salary teams and driving Metal Model Maker skilled trades to achieve daily deliverables.
- Manage tradition program work while evolving and growing the incoming non-traditional workstreams by developing new processes and long-term strategies.
- Ultimate responsibility for overall department budget and efficiency improvements to drive gains in the total Artisan Center budget.
- Monitor facility expenses, review contracts, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
- Plan and execute future capital investment with business case data to support.
- Ensure that basic facilities, such as water and heating, are well-maintained
- Plan for future development in line with strategic business objectives
- Provide technical leadership to salary and hourly team in all areas of Machining, Stamping, Die Design, formability analysis, and manufacturing process development.
- Collaborates with many teams cross-functionally and develop workstream strategies with BodyShop and General Assembly.
- Leads team on new methods or initiatives without defined procedures
- Reviews and approves engineering documentation, e.g. requirements, documents
- Identifies & leads staffing initiatives for work team
- Conducts regularly scheduled Group Meetings, Communicates GM Policies & Procedures, Leadership and Safety Messages
- Creates and communicates vision & strategies specific to functional responsibilities (may include preparing and giving presentations)
- Ensure employees complete all mandatory GM training and any specific training related to functional responsibility
- Understands & supports employee's career development goals
- Develops and executes initiatives to improve work team capability and increase work team capacity
- Assigns and manages workload for direct reports
- Sets individual employee and group priorities
- Reviews and approves employee work and overtime schedules, expenses, and other work-related data
- Evaluating Performance and Behaviors: Reviews deliverables and provides candid & constructive feedback
- Conducts performance interventions when necessary
- Formally & informally recognizes employee's contributions
- Provides timely and consistent feedback to direct employee's as appropriate
- Participates in compensation planning and administers compensation treatment
- Must be a well-organized, detailed and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter that will drive the business to the next level
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 7+ years of professional experience in manufacturing
- 5+ years of professional experience in Stamping, Machining, Fabrication, welding and Manufacturing process development
- 3+ years of Salaried people leader experience
- Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations
- Knowledge of general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to manufacturing
- Strong negotiation skills and experience working with the UAW and skilled trades
- Strong knowledge fabrication processes
- Has experience writing Appropriation Requests, and has maintained project spending information for prior projects - on-time and on-budget history a-plus
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field or equivalent professional level experience

- Demonstrated history of successful Salaried people leading
- Proven example(s) of driving a culture change and business strategy expansion
- Prior project/program management leadership experience
- Prior Manufacturing assignment & solid working relationship with UAW
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and track record of working collaboratively with cross functional teams to achieve project/program deliverables on time
- Works constructively with others under pressure to achieve all Project Imperatives
- Strong ability to multi-task and leverage resources to attain challenging goals
