Job Description Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design, manufacturing and delivery of the new high pressure turbine stage 1 blades for the LEAP program, with the objective to mature the design and meet the program objectives in terms of time on wing.

The design activities will include all blade characteristics, i.e. casting, machining and coating definition. During the design phase, you will tightly collaborate with the manufacturing teams to ensure producibility and cost control of the new designs. Once designed, you will lead the definition and the execution of component tests and engine endurance tests, including post-test teardown, hardware evaluation, model correlation.

The objective is also to improve the state-of-the-art of turbine mechanical systems by opening the design space and introducing new technologies.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Use engineering judgement and experience to challenge entrenched processes and methodology to recommend improvements.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge within discipline. Have awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contribute towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Have in-depth understanding of key business drivers; use this understanding to accomplish own work. Have in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Take new perspectives on existing solutions. Use technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Use multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explain difficult or sensitive information; work to build consensus. Develop persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Materials Engineering.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Previous experience in design of Turbine Airfoils or other Superalloy components.
  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.
  • Significant experience with Ansys and Unigraphics.
  • Certification in ASME Y14 or significant practical experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Documented experience of being a self-starter with a passion for problem solving and driving solutions, while constantly learning and mentoring others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.
