Tennessean High School Sports Editor
The Tennessean is seeking a high school sports editor who will be the expert in Tennessee high school athletics. The candidate will oversee coverage at The Tennessean as well as set the coverage strategy for the entire state as well as in the USA TODAY Network's South Region.
The candidate will be an expert in SEO. They will be able to set best practices in the region with an emphasis on breaking news and leading writers to becoming the high school sports expert in their respective coverage area. The candidate will also lead discussion on developing local, regional and statewide enterprise.
The candidate will be capable of editing content, including on deadline as well as coaching writers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in communications, journalism, digital media or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to identify stories that readers in local markets are talking about and able to leverage those to differentiate in competitive marketplace.
- Strong news judgment, great communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to producing and promoting journalism that is impactful and authoritative.
- Experience using analytics to help shape coverage decisions and story execution.
- Ability to manage, coach and motivate sports journalists to strive for improvement and growth.
