The role of editor is to generate original content for Nashville Lifestyles magazine and its sister publications, including Weddings, SWIG, AT HOME and other custom publications both through personal efforts (e.g. research, interviewing subjects and original writing) and via coordinating and managing a solid freelance network capable of producing additional high quality written material directly relevant to a city magazine and the website associated with the magazines.

Editor should be aware of advertising goals and work to provide product to support those goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Editorial creation - Generate original magazine and online content via solid research into relevant topics and issues, interviews and in-depth writing of content for magazines and web components of the business.
  • Content supervision-Direct interaction with all freelance writers and photographers, publicists as well as staff members working on editorial projects, defining content for each issue, assigning stories, setting deadlines and managing the balance and flow of material contained in each issue.
  • Editing content-Reading and correcting submitted material for continuity, content, appropriate use of grammar, correct spelling and basic copy-editing. This will also include working with the design team and photographer to find appropriate art for each piece of submitted material. It also involves proofing magazine and online proofing after the copy editor has already gone through and red lined and putting these into the proper software for production needs.
  • To work with digital editor to generate, edit and proofread digital content that both pulls from, and complements print editorial content, as well as posting that content to the online site.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference for candidates with at least 5 years publication experience.
  • Strong background in digital content production and management, including search engine optimization, metrics analysis, social media strategies and digital innovation as well as identifying trending content.
  • Experience in Magazine Publications.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media and customer feedback tools, including how to respond and engage customers on digital platforms in the public space.
  • Creative advertorial and design in print and online necessary.
  • Excellent organizational, inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Industry knowledge.
  • Be considered as a thought-leader in digital/social media content and stays current on digital content trends.
  • Must live in Nashville.
  • Attend magazine events regularly.
  • Writing samples required.
