  • Process and analyze data from vehicle emissions tests, including time-resolved Particle Mass and Number (PM/PN) measurements, PM filter collection, related test site parameters, and vehicle information
  • Troubleshooting PM & PN measurement instruments in chassis dynamometer (and engine dynamometer) facilities
  • Understand differences and similarities of the various PM & PN measurement instruments, including particle detection technology, strengths & weaknesses of the methods, and sources of error & uncertainty in PM measurements
  • Collaborate with engine and aftertreatment test engineers in development and testing of methods to reduce PM emissions, including engine controls and gasoline particulate filters (GPF)
  • Interact with APTL & ELD dynamometer facilities, providing expert knowledge in the operation of PM/PN instruments and the interpretation of PM emissions results
  • Develop experiments to evaluate new technologies in PM detection instruments or sensors
  • Technical support of engineering fire fights for high PM during program delivery or post-production evaluations (e.g., IUVP/IUCP)


QUALIFICATIONS

You'll have...

  • Minimum B.S. in Physical Sciences or Engineering (Chemistry, Physics, or Chemical Engineering)
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in the combustion engine emissions field
  • Experience with chassis or engine dynamometer facilities (VERL or APTL) and an understanding of their operations with respect to vehicle drive cycles and data collection from the various emissions instruments
  • Sound technical knowledge of combustion-based PM measurement methods
  • Familiarity with the complex physical & chemical characteristics of combustion-based particulate

Even better, you may have...

  • 5+ years of experience with soot and particulate analysis
  • 5+ years demonstrating ability to analyze, plan, and solve sophisticated system problems as they relate to engines and emissions.
