Manufacturing Engineering Manager

As the Manufacturing Engineering Manager you will manage and ensure the success of Manufacturing Engineers and identified projects where Manufacturing input is required. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager ensures the Manufacturing Engineering team is operating effectively to achieve set objectives, participating in cross-functional development teams, and collaborating with business leadership to maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is also responsible for all key duties and responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering role. This includes but is not limited to creating prototypes, testing, and documenting test results; scheduling, coordinating and managing multiple projects; and communicating with vendors to ensure product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the primary duties and responsibilities of this role. Other related duties may be assigned to meet the business need.

  • Lead a team of engineers in developing and executing manufacturing methods that result in quality product that meets customer specifications.
  • Evaluate, schedule, assign and manage work order requests within the assigned area
  • Manage the adherence to prescribed procedures to ensure product quality meets or exceeds planned goals
  • Analyze and recommend resources needed to meet project and production goals
  • Ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are established, satisfied, and maintained
  • Identify the need for and hire new personnel
  • Train new department employees on department procedures, work instructions, forms and any other aspect that will affect key duties and responsibilities
  • Train applicable staff on testing and manufacturing processes associated with each company product
  • Participate in quality control / assurance related activities
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, utilizes resources efficiently and effectively takes responsibility for own learning needs
  • Set-Up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot CNC machines and code as required
  • Participate in the following product development activities as the manufacturing liaison: concept generation, decision matrices, manufacture, and associated metrics
  • Perform research and qualification testing utilizing axial, torsional, compression, and other test methods
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
  • Communicate with vendors regarding outsourced manufacturing
  • Provide technical guidance and support to manufacturers to maintain quality of work
  • Be aware of and comply with regulatory requirements that are applicable to Trilliant Surgical, including but not limited to the MDD, CMDR, 21CFR820 & other regulations as applicable
  • Maintain equipment by coordinating maintenance and repair services and following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures

Required Education and Experience:

  • Engineering Degree in a relevant field of study (i.e. Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical)
  • 5 or more years previous engineering work in a related field
  • 3+ years leadership experience
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to articulate clearly, professional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Minitab
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
  • Strong planning, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with little supervision
  • Must have strong understanding of engineering level mathematics and physics
  • Ability to understand and create engineering schematics
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations (21CFR820), ISO standards (ISO 13485), MDD, CMDR and other regulations as applicable

Physical Demands

  • Ability to travel via automobile and/or airplane as needed (travel out of the Houston metropolitan area will be needed)
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to tug, pull, or lift up to 40 (40) pounds
