Job Description:

Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS (CMA), a Dow Jones company, is looking for a Strategic Insights Associate Director to lead, define and publish a regular integrated Strategic Insights program across the chemical, petrochemical and energy sectors. You will work across all the CMA product value chains, and the marketing and sales functions. You will produce and deliver a comprehensive Strategic Insight content approach that advances the CMA brand and uses the plethora of CMA data and insights to develop content and themes that provide a holistic understanding of the important issues and developments across the chemicals and energy sectors-in particular those that will improve the future performance and strategy of the industry players. This includes (but is not restricted to) producers, consumers, convertors, technology providers, and the financial community. Target personas will include C-Suite, IR teams, Business Strategy/Development teams, High-level Investment Banking executives, Portfolio Managers, and the broader industry community.

Also, this Strategic Insight content is used to improve client and prospect engagement, leading to new business opportunities. This role can be located in either London, UK or Houston, Texas, and reports to the Head of Strategic Insights for Chemical Market Analytics.

You will take ownership of the development of Strategic Insight deliverables, using the deep expertise, analysis and insights from the range of CMA value chain coverage to deliver an offering that will "join the dots" of the developments across multiple value chains and geographies, to allow users and readers to understand the major challenges and opportunities facing them from a strategic perspective. As a result, you will define KPI-driven goals, collaborate and align with multiple company partners, and undertake regular voice-of-customer research to understand the content needed for the deliverables.

This is a 'hands-on' autonomous role requiring collaboration among multiple partners; you will need to be self-driven and comfortable taking the initiative while providing well-thought-out plans and deliverables for stakeholder review and support.

Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for planning, developing and implementing the business's Strategic Insight content strategy.
  • Lead Strategic Insights content creation, using the content and knowledge from the CMA experts and publications
  • Manage the development of high-quality strategic insights/themes and content-including thought leadership, white papers, podcasts, and videos
  • Evaluate the success of the content offering and identifying new opportunities to capitalize on.
  • Work with partners across sales, product management and marketing to ensure agreement and understanding of forward-looking plans, tactics and strategies.
  • Be an in-house editor for market thought leadership content, coordinating with CMA Marketing concerning potential partnerships with leading media, trade publications and associations.
  • Ensure all content produced is optimized for the given medium, aligned with other tactics and formats, and created with clients' needs in mind.

Job Requirements
  • 9+ years of proven strategic content and/or editorial experience in the chemicals industry. Knowledge of the chemicals industry is required.
  • Experience of measurable success in developing Strategic Insights style products and innovative content programs to increase business growth.
  • Strategic content/ theme development capabilities, including strategy, writing, creation and execution of executive summaries and marketing style content across multiple media - including social media, blogs, websites and email.
  • Strong ability to think strategically, analytically, and creatively to identify key themes and trends, often requiring lateral thinking.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional, matrix organization, including understanding global/ regional/ country organizational dynamics.
  • Forward-looking and able to understand how chemical market trends will impact the business and pivot accordingly.

  • Chemical domain knowledge, editorial/curation skills and ability to draw strategic themes and conclusions from multiple data and insight sources are essential for the success of this role.
  • Excellent command of the English language, with great written and verbal communication skills
  • Natural ability to navigate a complex matrix organization and lead process changes.
