Summary
Interactive content (e.g., multi-perspective video) allows the viewer to actively engage with the content, providing an immersive and more personalized experience. However, to enable seamless interactivity, transmission of additional content components is required. This leads to an increase in the bandwidth requirements. Transport protocols such as TCP and UDP are not designed to optimally delivery these emerging content experiences. In recent years, QUIC was proposed as a new generation transport protocol, and its features make QUIC an attractive alternative for emerging interactive content delivery scenarios.
This project hypothesizes that emerging networking protocols such as Media over QUIC (MoQ) could provide an efficient way for streaming interactive media. To this extend, the goal of this internship is to design and conduct experiments to assess the performance of MoQ in comparison to state-of-the-art delivery protocols. The student will be expected to get acquainted with the current developments within MoQ and to provide a proof-of-concept implementation and evaluation of experiments comparing MoQ delivery to standard TCP delivery.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Masters/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field,
- Interest in network protocols,
- Experience with programming (e.g., Python and Rust).
