The Africa Partner Markets Third Party Operations team support the supply of over 6MEUs of Diageo brands through >20 third-party manufacturing facilities delivering a Net value to Diageo of >$70M in F25
As members of the Global Supply and Procurement Beer Category, the team will act as critical service providers, supporting the supply and technical delivery of Diageo brands through the Africa TPO network.
About the Role
The role is at the frontline of Third-Party Operations execution, to assist the regional Third-Party Operations Manager and will work closely with Africa Partner Markets Innovations managers, Commercial and other Supply teams as well as Partners. The role closely assists the regional TPO manager with the routine TPO activities across markets.
The role is 1 of 2 in the same team within Africa, looking after manufacturing sites that manufacture Diageo Beer, Spirits and RTD, through Third Party Operations Manufacturing models, within the Anglophone cluster sites.
The incumbent will be required to build strong working relationships with each of the Third Parties technical teams in the region/ segment where there is no direct Diageo presence and with the Diageo commercial and supply teams that are accountable for these partnerships and be able to channel any business requests to the right persons in Diageo.
They should be able to navigate through multiple cultures and may work with up to 10 different manufacturing units/ markets/ countries and has a meaningful role to play for Diageo Third Party Operations by provide mentorship and support to the technical teams of the partners to guarantee Brand Technical Equity. They will be the first point of contact /face of Diageo for the Third-Party technical teams.
The purpose of this role is to provide technical governance support to the Third-party Operations Manager in the assigned APM segment/ network to:
- Ensure adherence to TPO ways of working
- Adherence to our Diageo risk management standards,
- Develop our partner's capability,
- Support new product development / innovations with our partners and
Drive cost reduction/value maximization for our product supply from third party operations.
For the Francophone role, proficiency in both French and English is required.
Role Responsibilities:
- Drive compliance of Diageo products to Brand Technical Manual specifications and ensure quality objectives are met for all brands produced by Third Party Operations.
- Support the introduction and the commercialization of brands in new markets through a new or an existing Third Party i.e. Provide project management leadership for product roll out, new brand start-ups and global initiatives.
- Embed TPO Management standards with new and existing TPO including performance management, contract development or renewal, quality management, cost management, to improve TPO value.
Key collaborators - Global Brand Technical teams, OPEX delivery team, TPO Managers, Innovations Managers, Head of Supply TPO, APM Leadership team, Partners.
Experience / skills required:
- Science Graduate with post-graduate qualification in brewing, beverage, distilling or related field. IBD Diploma is a must have.
- At least 3-5 years in Brewing operations and Quality management
- Operational experience in the supply of alcoholic beverages, including knowledge of production and packaging (of all types), distribution, quality and product costing.
- Able to lead or work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Culturally sensitive and understanding the challenges facing developing countries
- Well-developed communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a range of technical and commercial people.
- Used to working remotely from his/her team whilst in the markets.
- Experience of managing multiple stakeholders and building effective relationships internally and externally to Diageo
- Good technical problem-solving skills.
- Technical auditing skills (with sound management systems knowledge and skills)
- Project Management skills
Barriers to success
- The position requires occasional business travel within the segment in Africa, therefore the incumbent needs to manage the role effectively from a variety of locations
- Inability to prioritize, plan and manage the workload
- Inability to represent Diageo in a professional and competent manner on all aspects of brewing, packaging and logistics
