About the Function
Diageo Global Procurement is accountable for the Procurement of Supply, Marketing, and Indirect categories with an annual value of circa $12bn. In support of Diageo's ambition to be the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products company in the world, the vision of Global Procurement is to be the most trusted and respected business partner, fuelling growth and value, everyday, everywhere.
The role is critical to support this vision and the productivity financial expectations for the next 3-5 years.
Diageo's Procurement function is currently structured to take advantage of our global scale through a model based on balancing Global Category roles with in-market execution roles. The Global Category teams, including this role, are focused on long term strategic development, big idea generation and bringing in external insight to keep Diageo's Procurement function on the forefront. Global Categories must work collaboratively with In-Market teams (including regional Centres of Excellence) to deliver strategies that are future thinking and fit for purpose to move into execution.

Accountabilities
General
- Applied expertise. Build, lead and grow expertise in one or more spend categories, including understanding of supply markets, suppliers, collaborators and how to negotiate supply and demand. Become a subject-matter expert and share with others in a global community of category professionals. Apply expertise and standards to identify and win new value for Diageo.
- Category excellence. Lead development of best-in-class market intelligence and knowledge, category strategies and sourcing events by applying Diageo standards for category excellence. Contribute to improvement of existing and development of new tools & techniques.
Category strategy
- Business partnering. Develop and grow relationships with team members, partners, and suppliers for deeper insights into needs and capabilities; articulate requirements and deliver insights for greater value from partner collaboration.
- Strategy development. For one or more spend categories, support development and evolution of category strategies by (1) capturing, articulating, and confirming business requirements; (2) researching and analysing market dynamics; and (3) assessing opportunities and proposing solutions.
- Best in class capabilities. Generate insights and opportunities from internal and external benchmarking, develop cost models to consider scenarios with suppliers and partners and build & evolve analytics capabilities that allow regular review and improvement of strategies.
- Support to Market CoEs. Support Market CoEs with strategy execution.
Sourcing
- Sourcing. Implement sourcing activities for Global and above-market leverage spend categories. Engage community members as required, apply Diageo Procurement standard methodologies.
- Contracting. For relevant sourcing projects, ensure effective planning, preparation, and application of the Negotiation Toolkit. Negotiate and close contracts. Complete contracts into the system. Manage contracts and contract compliance (Diageo team member compliance and Supplier compliance) through contract lifecycles.
Risk management
- Mitigate strategic risks. As part of category strategy execution, identify, record and follow-up risk mitigations in line with category strategies and standard processes.
- Mitigate sourcing risks. Identify corporate, supply, supplier and other risks associated with sourcing activities, put mitigations in place and implement them, engaging all relevant team members, partners, and suppliers to ensure the mitigations are successful.
- Apply and improve tools & techniques. Apply Diageo standards, ensuring the most recent and relevant approaches are always applied; use formal governance and peer review to ensure the quality and efficacy of risk management; contribute to development of standards.
Supplier relationship management
- Supplier relationship. Establish standards, ways of working and positive relationships with Global suppliers in relevant categories; ensure Diageo standard processes are applied and that there is a good foundation for strong performance, risk mitigation and rapid resolution of issues.
- Supplier performance. Support Market COE's with driving consistency across suppliers and markets, improving the value of data generated.
- Supplier development. In line with Procurement strategic supplier strategies, collaborate with suppliers to unlock breakthrough opportunities for the business; stimulate supplier capabilities to generate
Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages:
We are looking for an individual with a drive to be the best and be better every day: a brilliant negotiator, influencer and leader that can deliver outstanding, well-rounded, procurement strategies.
- Experience in category management, demonstrated performance in leading large scale projects across a multi-faceted stakeholder group.
- Strong academic credentials, preferably a degree and an MBA or equivalent.
- Likely to have led a procurement category in an international environment.
- Solid understanding of outstanding Procurement practices and ways of working.
- An individual with the broad business insight and an ability to interact with general management at a senior level is critical.
- Proven capability to work across the end-to-end supply chain including Sales & Marketing.
- Ability to implement Pan-regional and global sourcing exercises with multiple business partners with demonstrated ability to deliver comprehensive value.
- A management style and approach that puts diversity and inclusion at the heart of all interactions.
- Experienced negotiator, capable of delivering great outcomes when leading high value & complex deals.
