Your Role
As a Senior Consultant in Employer Health, you will provide strategic and technical employee benefit consulting services to plan sponsors, including employers and municipal governments. We are specifically interested in consultants with deep pharmacy benefits experience as well as general health and group benefits skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project manager for specific projects or key workstream lead on larger projects.
- Evaluate Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) contracts, deal terms, and financial proposals.
- Be conversant in the pharmacy business cycle and key players including drug manufacturers, GPOs, PBMs, payors, pharmacies and patients.
- Prepare self-insured financial projections and support health plan management, including financial reporting, premium rate setting, and employee contributions.
- Conduct employee benefits studies, including benchmarking and modeling alternative designs.
- Develop comprehensive benefits strategies, including plan offerings and design.
- Manage RFP processes for medical, dental, pharmacy, life, and disability programs, including development, administration, proposal evaluation, vendor selection, negotiation, and implementation.
- Assist in the review and negotiation of premium rate/administrative fee renewals.
- Advise clients on industry trends, best practices, regulatory updates, and compliance deadlines.
- Evaluate vendors by reviewing services, contracts, performance guarantees, and renewals.
- Analyze claims utilization data and assess health plan performance against strategy.
- Act as an extension of the HR team, assisting with ad hoc requests or issues.
- Prepare client presentations and reports.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service.
- Serve as a project manager to train and mentor junior team members.
- Engage in general health & welfare consulting activities as needed.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Familiarity with the financial components of pharmacy benefit manager contracts.
- 5+ years of experience in consulting or brokerage in U.S. health/welfare benefits.
- 3+ years of experience in PBM RFPs
- 2+ years of underwriting experience beyond basic model usage.
- 4+ years of experience managing multiple projects/clients simultaneously.
- 4+ years of demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel 0-25%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related field with strong mathematical content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of at least three U.S. health & welfare benefit plan types (such as life, disability, dental) through direct project experience, completion of two or more relevant training courses, or authorship of at least two client deliverables or reports on these topics
- Participated in the design, analysis, or administration of at least two U.S. Total Rewards programs (including compensation and retirement plans), or completed a minimum of 20 hours of formal training or certification in Total Rewards.
- Successfully passed at least two Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams, or achieved Associate-level status (ASA/ACAS) or higher.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $118,700 to $218,600
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
