About the Job
The Director of Strategy and Special Projects will report directly to the Chief Legal and Public Affairs Officer (CLPAO) and partner closely with the senior leadership teams of both the Legal and Federal and State Government Affairs departments. Along with driving discrete strategic initiatives and projects, this role also functions as a "Chief of Staff" and is responsible for management process, strategic planning, and ensuring department objectives align with broader Village objectives. As a special projects leader, you'll tackle projects requiring you to partner with various functions across the business achieve common goals. This role requires the teammate to be comfortable interacting/influencing senior leaders ("managing up"), skilled at "guiding" leadership teams to strategic alignment, and effective at communicating to a senior/executive audience. Successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of top performance and desire to help improve our overall healthcare system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as a thought partner and support the CLPAO in crafting and executing on strategic initiatives across the CLPAO's portfolio, including Legal, Federal Policy and State Policy.
- Highlight areas of opportunities, risks, and/or other unforeseen variables for the CLPAO and develop and implement approaches to address them
- Lead critical project(s) working across multiple Village teams; monitor metrics, track progress of initiatives, and prepare presentations for senior leadership
- Drive creation of materials for executive updates, bi-annual strategy and performance reviews, quarterly Board of Directors meetings, and other updates on the portfolio.
- Support internal communication by helping to craft and deliver key messages
- Responsible for synthesizing numerous sources of data and key analysis and translating into specific actions
- Ability to lead through influence, often managing several senior level stakeholders with various priorities
- Drives results and gets things done - defines approach with limited guidance and adjusts as needed based on feedback and input from CLPAO and others
- Able to structure ambiguous problems into clear workstreams and drive execution
- Manages and drives strategic and operational initiatives in collaboration with other teams
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare delivery, strategy consulting, or similar
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MHA or other Masters in related area strongly preferred
- A high level of discretion and the ability to preserve sensitive, privileged, and confidential information appropriately
- Demonstrated ability to function as a strong member of a highly motivated and integrated management team.
- Highly organized, structured working style with the ability to oversee multiple projects at once
- Interest and curiosity in a broad array of topics and issues
- Demonstrated leadership skills; able to identify meaningful goals and capture the imagination of others to achieve them; able to add value to discussions or projects that impact DaVita's position in the industry
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact at executive level with persuasiveness and confidence
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ability to be "other-oriented"; ability to appreciate people with different backgrounds and points of view
