Job Summary:

As the BIS/ELF cross-functional team leader for customer Corrective Action Requests (CARs), you will be responsible for reacting to line-down quality issues impacting production and ensuring all quality documentation and alerts support SEP and customer quality concerns. You will manage DWU line inspectors and provide feedback to assembly teams regarding new quality issues discovered during inspection and engine testing. Additionally, you will support the creation of Manufacturing Non-Conformance (MNC) reports to assist Supplier Quality Improvement Engineers (SQIE) with supplier disputes, a responsibility that has shifted to SQIE following the PSBU transformation restructure. Your role involves working cross-functionally with Operations, Manufacturing, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Materials, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to achieve plant Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals.

In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Manage systems related to plant customer issues, including corrective requests.
  • Lead containment activities to address quality issues.
  • Ensure products and processes meet initial and long-term quality standards (e.g., IATF, customer-specific requirements, APQP, PPAP documentation).
  • Support change management activities for current products and Value Package Introduction (VPI).
  • Verify products and processes to ensure key measures are met and analyze data for decision support.
  • Support and/or lead less complex quality audits.
  • Serve as a quality technical resource to other functional areas.
  • Prioritize continuous improvement with cross-functional key business partners using industry-proven methodologies (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, 7-step problem solving, Intelligent Quality Tools and Methods (IQTM)).
  • Apply basic understanding of Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) core tools.
  • Lead less complex and/or support Safe Launch initiatives through VPI.

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning:
  • Leads technical quality planning and ensures customer satisfaction through structured and measurable processes as defined by industry standards.
  • Measurement Science:
  • Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty. Applies appropriate measurement science, including Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Radiation, and Physical metrology.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Solves problems and mentors others on effective problem-solving using systematic analysis processes. Leverages industry-standard methodologies to create problem traceability, protect the customer, determine assignable causes, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify systemic root causes to prevent problem recurrence.
  • Production Part Approval Process:
  • Coordinates the submission level of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and information related to new or changed products and processes. Dispositions product readiness for production in accordance with the Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) and APQP provisions of Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) manuals and Cummins procedures to meet supplier and customer requirements.
  • Project Management:
  • Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, schedule, and resources for temporary efforts (projects). Ensures results and impacts from temporary efforts are fully realized.
  • Quality Process Management:
  • Applies quality tools and methods (e.g., APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, Capability studies, Process Audit, inspection, test) proficiently to ensure the quality of products, processes, and services.
  • Quality Systems Management:
  • Utilizes quality tools and processes to ensure the quality management system is understood, implemented, maintained, and demonstrates its ability to consistently and effectively provide products/services that meet requirements.
  • Statistical Foundations:
  • Applies statistical tools and techniques to influence decision-making. Leverages understanding of data collection methods, key statistics, graphical and analytical methods to describe process performance, gain insights, and drive improvement actions.

  • Quality 4.0:
  • Leverages cloud-based systems and digitization to drive improved quality outcomes. Applies knowledge of Quality 4.0 (Q4.0) and digitization of quality management, including cloud-native software applications, digital twin, simulation, adaptive intelligence, and connected systems.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject or experience equivalent is preferred.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Minimal to intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
