The Materials Science Associate leads laboratory teams and is responsible for the analysis, interpretation and reporting of data, supervises and follows up on maintenance issues. Their work is key to improving the performance and efficiency of the organization.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Monitoring laboratory supplies inventory
- Supervising activities related to equipment maintenance
- Performing metallographic analysis
- Performing weld quality evaluations
- Characterizing additive manufacturing processes in terms of porosity, chemistry and mechanical properties.
- Preparation of reports related to material characterization work.
- Acting as team leader for all laboratory work priorities and activities, calibration and maintenance of equipment and instruments, technical reports and documentation.
- Preparation of samples and specimens for analysis and data acquisition, interpretation of results and writing technical reports.
- Make independent decisions and initiatives for necessary activities, problem solving and practical applications.
- Maintaining quality procedures and work instructions.
- Performing oil analysis.
Qualifications
Education:
- Degree in chemical engineering, materials science or any other field.
Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of materials characterization, such as mechanical, chemical and metallographic analysis.
- Basic knowledge of welding and casting fundamentals.
- Experience with equipment such as computed tomography (CT), arc/spark spectrometer, hardness testers, scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscope and universal testing machine. Desirable basic knowledge of equipment such as ICP (inductively couple plasma) and FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared)
- Knowledge of welding and additive manufacturing processes (direct energy deposition, powder bed fusion and thermal spray processes)
- Advanced English
- Desirable knowledge of fundamentals and characterization of welding and additive manufacturing processes (direct energy deposition, powder bed fusion and thermal spray processes).
