The Assistant Controller will work under the direction of the Company Controller and assist with the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, and internal control systems. The assistant controller will also be responsible for reconciling accounts, inventory, accounts payable and receivables as well as assisting with financial audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and consolidating financial statements and reports.
- Assisting with the development and evaluation of budgets and preparing budget reports.
- Supporting the formulation and implementation of control systems within the organization.
- Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory; identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts.
- Accounting for construction job activity including job billing, subcontract payments and cost reviews
- Supporting the accounting department with all aspects of the general ledger.
- Ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Preparing and managing accounts using various software programs.
- Preparing and assisting with audits.
- Following changes in regulations and compiling reports regarding compliance issues, standards, and accounting practices.
- Ensure adequate controls are installed and maintained to safeguard the financial assets of the Company. This includes all Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations, AMAT and South Division accounting policies and procedures.
- Manage accounting staff and coordinate with operations month end flash/close.
- Review GAAP schedules quarterly for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to Atlanta.
- Provide strong leadership and support AMAT's talent management initiatives through succession planning and professional development of the accounting personnel within the organization.
- Maintain good working relations with managers from all lines of business.
- Work on ad hoc projects as directed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Environmental, Health & Safety Manual.
- Strict adherence to policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or managers with other projects or initiatives as required.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Assist with interviewing and hiring process as necessary.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Willingness to develop subordinates' technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
- Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.
- Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee 30-60-90-day evaluations.
- Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.
- Lead by example.
- Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, plus 5+ years of relevant financial management and / or job cost construction experience. CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting principles, methods, techniques, standards, and metrics.
- Strong financial analysis capabilities, including discounted cash flow modeling and analysis.
- Skill in examining and establishing proper financial operations and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong business and strategic leadership abilities.
- Ability to translate business objectives into actionable, measurable initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
Work Requirements
- Strong values and high standards of ethics, integrity, and trust.
- Business acumen in construction operations, manufacturing, and/or distribution.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate problems clearly and concisely by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and follow an extensive variety of technical instructions.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data. This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, Hyperion financial software and other web-based programs.
