Summary:
Referral coordinator is primarily responsible for the scheduling of patient appointments with specialists, therapy providers or diagnostic testing, and assuring prior authorizations are obtained when required by the payor. In addition, this position is responsible for documenting the electronic medical record with necessary referral information, flagging and faxing appropriate medical records, and communicating appointment details to patient caregivers. Referral coordinator should have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work well under pressure and time management skills. Referral coordinator should also be self-motivated and committed to achieving the best results for the patient.
Education & Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- At least three years of experience in a medical office setting.
- Understanding of diversified insurance plans and Managed Care environment. Knowledge of coding and medical terminology.
- Exhibits good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Possess basic computer knowledge at a minimum.
