Coney Island Prep is looking for a Facilities Manager who will be on site to oversee our High School and Middle School campuses and who will have a direct impact on scholar success. As a key player on the Operations Team, you are adept at prioritizing and balancing your day-to-day tasks with last minute needs that may arise. You’ll use seamless systems including checklists, walkthroughs, project schedules, and vendor lists to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot your buildings. Your role isn’t just a job: it’s an adventure of collaborative problem solving, consistent communication, and readiness to jump in and support.

The Facilities Manager will be hired by and will report to the Director of Facilities.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

  • Ensure that your school site is clean and safe at all times; proactively address any concerns
  • Provide oversight and support to on-site staff at your campuses and outsourced cleaning crew
  • Troubleshoot, and in some cases perform, maintenance of Coney Island Prep’s Middle and High Schools and surrounding spaces by conducting minor plumbing and electrical repair work 
  • Engage contracted vendors or service providers as needed and serve as their point of contact; build strong relationships with vendors and inspectors
  • Monitor the completion of campus renovations per the annual school project schedule 
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the High School’s interior and exterior spaces; oversee waste management and daily fire alarm inspections  
  • Coordinate with the Director of Facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and inspections (e.g. FDNY, DEP, DOB, DOH); oversee any necessary repairs
  • Participate in the management, implementation, and renewal of vendor contracts, invoice payments, and record keeping; manage expenses against an annual budget and participate in mid and end-of-year budget reviews with the Director of Facilities 
  • Inform and implement facilities aesthetic guidelines for school staff
  • Maintain a high staff satisfaction rating for response time and improvement of building operations
  • Implement consistent and effective communication system for repair and maintenance needs
  • Ensure that sanitary and cleaning supplies are in stock and in place (e.g., consumables in bathrooms, cleaning supplies for maintenance staff)
  • Support the school during events as well as all facility-related issues and emergencies, including inclement weather, alarms, and repairs 
  • Provide critical, informed input for facilities decisions; identify opportunities for operational improvements and address them; make recommendations for improvements in systems and processes
  • Support the building’s leadership by understanding priorities for their facility, working collaboratively with Operations staff, and coordinating facilities upgrades and preventative maintenance programs in all school buildings on a rotating basis with Director of Operations and Principal input

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of building and life-safety systems including technical knowledge of building maintenance, materials, equipment, mechanical systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC), custodial operations (equipment, products and standards), and Building and Fire codes
  • Self-reflective and open to regular feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow learn new things
  • Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and a willingness to examine own biases across lines of sameness and difference
  • A strong track record of building positive relationships across various stakeholder groups demonstrating a value towards diversity and inclusivity
  • Eagerness to work collaboratively as part of a team on a campus and across schools
  • At least 3 years of experience in school operations, building superintendence, property management, or construction
  • Must have or be willing to obtain all required NYC Certificates of fitness, F07 (Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor) and S95 (Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems) within six months of hire date 
  • Ability to take on physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., moving boxes, packages, and rearranging furniture
  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree preferred but not required; High School diploma required
  • Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian proficiency a bonus
  • Comfort with reading and entering data into Excel spreadsheets

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Merging growth, performance, and commitment, the Coney Island Prep community takes its responsibility to prepare scholars for the college and career of their choice very seriously, but not ourselves. Coney Island Prep currently serves over Coney Island Prep currently serves over 1,300 scholars across its four schools, including:

  • 312 scholars in kindergarten – second grade at the lower elementary school
  • 336 scholars in third – fifth grade at the upper elementary school
  • 348 scholars in sixth – eighth grades at the middle school
  • 349 scholars in ninth-twelfth grade at the high school

Benefits and Compensation

  • Employees at Coney Island Prep are provided with salaries that are highly competitive, set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills and experiences relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is $65,000-$80,000, based on experience. 
  • As a regular full time employee of Coney Island Prep, you will be eligible for benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match and Paid Family Leave.
