The Senior Vice President of Engineering is an executive leadership role managing Collective Health’s Engineering team. We are changing US healthcare through the use of technology, and the SVP of Engineering leads the team that develops and delivers that technology. Our solutions serve US employers and their employees, enhancing decision-making, health outcomes, and cost management.

In the past decade, we've developed an extensive suite of platform capabilities, end-user experiences and internal tooling, including web and mobile portals, eligibility management, and high-volume claims adjudication, integrating with 3rd party enterprise solutions (HRMS/Ben Admin solutions) and 3rd party medical, dental, pharma, vision solutions, as well as specialist program solutions for maternity, fertility, diabetes, behavioral health, and many other medical domains. As our SVP of Engineering, you will report to the Chief Product & Technology Officer and lead our experiences, platform, operations, and infrastructure engineering teams. Collective Health has a number of foundational technology services that allow us to deliver a differentiated health benefits and care experience for our members. Our applications and platform operate across a variety of services and technology frameworks and we have the opportunity to better integrate our processes, services, and foundational infrastructure in a way that will enable us to deliver more for our customers and simplify our platform. You will collaborate with Product Management to shape the delivery roadmap and solution architecture. You will contribute to the growth of Collective Health making us a top destination for engineers committed to revolutionizing US healthcare, fostering collaboration, respect, technical excellence, and very high delivery quality.   

What you'll do:

  • Drive technology innovation for our applications and services, ensuring that our systems are performant, accurate, scalable, maintainable, and well-documented.
  • Lead our engineering teams, including experiences, platform, operations, and infrastructure 
  • Collaborate with our Product, Customer Experience, and Design leadership teams to manage and deliver cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Lead Collective Health product technical architecture and drive architectural investments into release schedule. Champion continuous focus on addressing technical debt.
  • Drive innovation and practical delivery around machine learning and LLMs to better serve our members and reduce our cost to deliver our differentiated service.
  • With the CPTO and Executive Leadership Team, define and implement the evolution of our technology platform to support scale, performance, and componentization, such that we can offer our platform as a service to other payers in the healthcare space.
  • Partner with Site Operations, Security, and IT to ensure Collective Health’s mission-critical services exceed our 99.9% customer SLA, and smoothly scale as service usage increases, coping with spikes in utilization.
  • Define our platform and cloud infrastructure roadmaps and prioritization in order to support massive customer growth while driving economies of scale in delivery of services.
  • Lead our Quality Engineering team. Drive our CI/CD methodology for rapid software advance combined with very high solution quality.
  • Partner with our Data teams to transform transactional data into analytical data and maintain a culture of data-driven decision-making.
  • Define and own a staffing and team strategy that includes both onshore and offshore teams.
  • Be responsible for team engagement, diversity, and satisfaction.
  • Manage our technology roadmap and balance technology and platform investments with our overall product and business objectives.
  • Along with the CPTO, define our long-term technology strategy and multi-year technology and infrastructure roadmap.
  • Help your engineering teams and leaders develop and operate as high-performing teams.
  • Be a champion for agile development practices and consistency across the product organization.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • 15+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • Experience leading large multi-site SaaS Engineering teams of 100+ people. 
  • Experience growing teams through hiring. 
  • Team design and organizational structure experience, ensuring balanced growth across contributing skill sets (e.g. management, front-end eng, back-end eng, full-stack eng, QA).
  • Proven successes developing high-availability, mission-critical systems, with specific experience in scaling systems for exponential growth.
  • Proven experience leveraging AWS (or similar) cloud environments, with high system availability, observability, and performance,
  • Consumer and Enterprise Business platform development experience
  • Highly collaborative style, with experience partnering with Product Management, Cloud Engineering, Data Science, Design, and User Research.
  • Experience in supporting Enterprise customers.
  • Healthcare and/or Financial services industry experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to inspire teams and help them understand the technology strategy and how engineering initiatives contribute to the overall company success.
  • A track record of delivering large, complex projects (including both technical and organizational complexity).
  • A track record of developing engineering leaders and high performance teams.
  • Experience driving technology and platform strategy that had meaningful business impact.
  • Deep understanding of agile practices at scale.
  • Affinity for and willingness to dive deep into technical details and grasp the intricacies of a complex platform.
  • Experience hiring and building teams with high employee engagement and morale.
  • Experience as a product leader in organizations of different sizes/maturity levels.
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations and platforms in a rapid growth company.

Pay Transparency Statement 

This is a hybrid position based out of our San Francisco office, with the expectation of being in office at least two weekdays per week. #LI-hybrid 

The actual pay rate offered within the range will depend on factors including geographic location, qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to the salary, you will be eligible for stock options and benefits like health insurance, 401k, and paid time off.
