Introduction

About the Position:
The Adaptive Services Recreation Leader II plans and leads social, recreation, and sport activities for persons with neuro and/or physical diversities at facilities, recreation sites, and specialty areas. This position facilitates activities with a variety of age groups in social programs, Special Olympics sports, and inclusive settings. An Adaptive Services Recreation Leader II ensures that activities or instructions are modified when appropriate to meet varying needs of participants.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • No education required for this position.
    • A minimum of six months experience in a customer service position.

    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements

    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Successfully complete driving training, first aid, and safety classes.
    • A valid food handler's license ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire or promotion is required for the Concessions Assignment.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

    • Communicates effectively in person and on the telephone with patrons and/or program participants.
    • Sets up, tears down, and cleans up for special events, projects, and programs.
    • Maintains safety and security of facility, including all aspects of recreation, planning and programming.
    • Observes patrons and program participants in order to maintain discipline, order, and crowd control at activity site.
    • Uses personal computer to prepare quality written documents including accident and incident reports, event flyers, emails, and electronic timesheet.
    • Plans, implements, and evaluates recreation programs for youth, teens, and/or adults with developmental, physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities.
    • Ensures that activities are modified (when possible) to meet individual abilities and accommodate limitations of participants.

    • Move objects up to 50 pounds a long distance (greater than 20 ft.), such as setting up tables, sound and lighting equipment, booth frames, and lifting trash bags.
    • For some assignments, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, stand for long periods of time, and scoop ice cream requiring repetitive arm/hand movement.
    • Work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
