The Mayor’s Business Action Team (MBAT) is a unit within Commerce that provides direct customer service and information to business owners. Business Services Managers act as a concierge service for business owners in the City of Philadelphia.

Job Description

Position Summary

The Department of Commerce is seeking to hire a Business Services Manager to join our team to meet the needs of the businesses in our community. The role of the Business Services Manager is to support and provide customer friendly service to businesses that operate within the City of Philadelphia. Each business manager is expected to take a proactive stance in the territories they service, identifying and implementing improvements to strengthen and grow the business environment.

Essential Functions

• One on One business assistance

• Business outreach

• Establish and maintain community partnerships

• Serve as key point of contact for business owners looking for help in navigating City services and regulations.

• Represent business concerns to other City agencies/departments

• Record and maintain business cases in the department database

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Knowledge of small business operations.

· Knowledge of City, State and Federal economic development programs.

· Knowledge of private agencies that service the business community through funding, technical support and other resources, i.e., banks, CDFIs, Small Business Development Centers, neighborhood nonprofits, etc.

· Resilient: Ability to have a sense of humor, learn from mistakes, and/or return to work after experiencing a setback.

· Data management skills using software such as Excel, QuickBase, or Access.

· Proficient in Google Docs and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Strong administrative skills.

· Proficiency in languages in addition to English is a plus and multi-lingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 2-5 years of experience working with small business owners is preferred.
