Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting with all aspects of City of Hope's (COH) credentialing activities of all physicians and others practitioners (e.g., Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants) applying or re-applying to the COH Medical Staff or Allied Health Professional Staff. In addition, this position will assist the department director with some clerical tasks. Based on the level of experience, works independently with minimal supervision. At all times, follows the Department's comprehensive credentialing standards in accordance with approved Medical Staff governance documents.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Upon receipt of the online initial application or re-application, initiates thorough "data scrubbing" before all demographic and other data elements are downloaded in the Medical Staff's credentialing and privileging system.
  • Secures and uploads all credentialing documents into respective Credentials Files electronically or in paper.
  • Reviews applications for completeness and follows-up on any missing information, verify gaps, etc.
  • Initiate electronic verification of licensure and other certifications.
  • As necessary, conduct manual verification of credentials (hospital verifications, claims history, peer references, etc) for institutions not currently using online verifications.
  • Follows-up with verifying entities if no response has been received.
  • When appropriate, works cooperatively with administrative staff at the City of Hope Medical Foundation in order to obtain pertinent information necessary for credentialing.
  • Scan all verifiable information into the department's Medical Staff credentialing and privileging system for internal review and presentation to respective Department Chair/Division Chief and the various peer review committees.
  • Develops thorough understanding of credentialing terminology and documents and is able to utilize external systems used to research and obtain pertinent information.
  • Maintains a positive image when dealing with department personnel and other City of Hope employees.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • High school diploma.
  • Zero to two (0-2) years' experience in a hospital, medical group or Independent Practice Association (IPA).
  • Direct knowledge in credentialing optimal, but not required.
