Lead Software Engineer, Backend, International Solutions

Overview

Chick-fil-A, Inc. has a stated intent to expand business interests in Canada, Puerto Rico and to the EMEA and APAC regions. As a result, Chick-fil-A is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to build custom solutions for our International Technology Strategy.

In this role, we are seeking an exceptionally talented Lead Software Engineer to spearhead solutions for our International Technology Ecosystem. The International Technology Ecosystem team currently operates as a start-up within an Enterprise. As this team works to bring Chick-fil-A beyond the borders of the US, there will be custom solutions that will need to be built. You will be responsible for POC-ing, architecting, and delivering these solutions to serve the needs of the International business.

You will be able to lean on partners to augment your capacity, but you will ultimately be responsible for the design, specification, vendor management, and final acceptance. You will have access to staff Outcome Owners, Enterprise/Solution/Data Architects, and other resources to help you achieve your goal.

The role will report to the Team Leader for International Solutions in Entity Technical Services and will partner closely with other technical leaders within the Digital Transformation and Technology (DTT) department. The position is based in Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities

  • Comfortable with back-end languages (Golang, Java, Ruby, or similar) and corresponding frameworks to solve problems and deliver value on cloud-based solutions including AWS and GCP.
  • Design and build Proof-of-Concept solutions to discover what the overall strategy and approach should be for International Solutions.
  • Design and specify the required solution based on requirements received from the product owner.
  • Interview, and on-board contract software engineers and partner engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with partner engineering teams: challenge them to leverage best practices, help to solve knotty problems, review code, and share stories.
  • Review the partner's progress to ensure it is meeting requirements, Chick-fil-A engineering standards, deadlines, and SLAs.
  • Identify & propose emerging software engineering technologies, methodologies and/or approaches.


Entity Technical Services is responsible for the digital technology experience to enable the Business capabilities for the international expansion of Chick-fil-A. Some of those solutions include, Point of Sale, Commerce Experiences, Financial Services, Restaurant ERP, etc. Your projects will fall into one or more of these domains.

Note - Working in a DevOps model, this opportunity includes both building and running solutions that could require off hours support. This support is sharedamongst the team members to coverweekends and weeknights. The goal is to design for failure and, using cloud-native infrastructure patterns, automate responses to possible issues so they can be worked during normal hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience shipping SaaS products to internal and external customers.
  • Broad and deep programming experience in modern software development languages.
  • Experience working with an agile development methodology featuring sprints, points estimation, and daily standups.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and code merging/branching; specific experience with git desirable.
  • Experience in solutions architecture for distributed, highly available systems as well as cloud solutions.
  • Proven ability to positively influence the engineering culture and practices in a professional environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading engineering teams, including good interpersonal and team collaboration skills as well as demonstrated ability to drive for quality results.
  • Experience with TDD, CI/CD, agile, Kanban, or similar software development practices
  • Deep understanding of AWS architecture
  • Experience with Edge Computing
  • Experience with Retail Commerce solutions, mobile commerce solutions, publicly available APIs
  • Experience in design, data collection, and data analysis
