Our Opportunity:
As a Software Development Manager (SDM) on the Pet Health development team based in Boston, MA, you will be a technical, hands-on leader, guiding a full-stack engineering team to deliver impactful solutions for Chewy's Pet Health initiatives. This is a high-profile position offering significant business exposure and the opportunity to influence the architecture, design, and features for a rapidly growing line of business. This leadership role offers a tremendous opportunity to drive innovation and achieve significant professional growth within the leading comprehensive pet care company.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of ~8 full-stack software engineers responsible for building Chewy's new Pet Health initiatives using Java, Spring Boot, and React, deploying on AWS.
- Foster, maintain, and improve upon a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standards, emphasizing technical depth and hands-on leadership.
- Establish strong working relationships across functional teams and collaborate with Engineering Management to drive best practices in software design, development, testing, and production deployment for full-stack solutions.
- Partner with product owners to define and manage team priorities, balancing roadmap initiatives with iterative platform improvements.
- Partner with our recruiting team to continue forming your team and mentor the growth of the existing team members
What You’ll Need:
- 5+ years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer or architect, with strong experience in full-stack development including Java/Spring Boot and React, and a demonstrated history of implementing and managing multiple, significant software development projects with hands-on involvement.
- 2+ years of experience in Engineering Management, with a proven ability to lead, mentor technical teams, and deliver projects under Agile/Scrum.
- Experience delivering projects via CI/CD in an AWS cloud environment, including designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems using microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or a similar math/engineering subject area.
- Position may require travel
Bonus:
- Experience in e-commerce or Healthcare
- Relevant experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services like EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS; Terraform, HELM, Ansible, etc)
