About the team

The Lifecycle: Documents team, part of Zillow's Industry Software organization, owns and advances the critical domain of document management across the real estate transaction lifecycle. Our mission encompasses supporting the mature, at-scale Dotloop platform-a widely adopted B2B SaaS solution for agents and brokers-and developing the next-generation document infrastructure that powers a Zillow agent productivity platform.
We collaborate closely with industry partners, MLSs, and state associations to meet the complex, evolving needs of real estate professionals and consumers, delivering seamless, compliant, and highly reliable document experiences.

About the role

As Senior Software Development Manager, you'll take on a highly impactful leadership role, acting as a single-threaded engineering leader for a B2B SaaS business as well as leading part of a new platform strategy. You'll lead a team of ~10 engineers in balancing the stewardship of a large, complex legacy system (Dotloop) while driving greenfield innovation for Zillow Workspace.

Your strong technical judgment, product sense, and leadership capabilities will be key to shaping the roadmap, driving delivery, and scaling operational excellence across a mission-critical domain.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the engineering strategy and execution for the Lifecycle: Documents domain, balancing legacy platform needs with forward-looking innovation.
  • Act as the single-threaded engineering leader for Dotloop, serving as a key point of contact for stakeholders and customers, offering both tactical support and strategic guidance.
  • Drive fast-paced, startup-style development within Zillow Workspace, ensuring rapid learning, experimentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Maintain a high bar for operational excellence, including performance, reliability, scalability, and compliance, across both legacy and new systems.
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture centered on technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with product, design, and peer engineering teams across lines of business to define strategy, align roadmaps, and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Ensure all systems your team owns are secure, scalable, and maintainable, with strong observability and test automation practices in place.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences-from engineers to executive leadership and external customers-adapting your message to maximize clarity and impact.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. "Remote" employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $201,700.00 - $322,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Able to ramp quickly in complex domains such as real estate transactions, agent/broker business models, and industry integrations (e.g., MLS, state associations).
  • Strong technical breadth and depth, with a track record of success leading engineering efforts in large-scale, complex, B2B systems.
  • Proven experience in multi-stakeholder environments with cross-functional dependencies and high customer impact.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with experience leading fast-moving, multi-team product development initiatives.
  • Adept at mentoring engineers across a range of seniorities and building cohesive, empowered teams.
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) with 12+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with relevant technologies (e.g., Golang, C#, Java, AWS for backend; React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS for frontend).
  • Experience in transactional systems or B2B SaaS platforms is a plus.
  • Passionate about code quality, testing, reliability, and maintainability, and known for raising the bar across engineering orgs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make high-judgment decisions in ambiguous or high-stakes situations.
  • Growth mindset and a desire to lead by example in continuous learning and development.
  • Bonus: Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOC 2, SOX).
