In this role, you'll be a critical lead responsible for building, optimizing, tracking and championing the use of, "Beacon", our Digital Design System (DDS) across multiple channels and teams to enable cohesive and dynamic digital experiences for investors that drive business outcomes. It's an exciting time as we are defining the next evolution of the design system over the next 3+ years.
As the Design System Program Manager, you'll articulate the design systems long-term strategy; define, implement, and maintain design guidelines & assets; support and guide creative agency partners and marketers who leverage the system; manage program communications, reporting and forums; and oversee design system governance to drive cohesive client experiences. In close partnership with design and development leads, you'll be at the front line to ensure the design system program drives exceptional digital experiences.
Core Responsibilities:
- Design System Strategy & Program Lead: Craft and implement a compelling 3-year strategy to articulate how the design system needs to evolve to support Schwab's business goals and drive cohesive experiences across marketing channels. Activate the strategy with the design system team through shared set of priorities, objectives and key results. To be successful in this, you have experience creating and leading a cross-discipline team, multi-year, multi-phase strategic roadmap that connects client and business outcomes to the implementation of a robust design system for a range of channels (such as Web, Email, Mobile App). You have a proven ability to strategize, vision cast and operationalize technical, future-facing, large scope efforts. You're an expert in the Product Development or Software Development Lifecycle (PDLC/SDLC) process, managing the full pipeline from requirements to design, testing/research to development, tracking and optimization. You thrive in system-level thinking at an enterprise level, are comfortable with complex technical eco-systems and people landscapes. You work well with technical, design, product and marketing stakeholders. You're familiar with multiple types of tools and platforms across design (Figma), research and A/B testing and development (Twig, React, Stensul/Email modules) to enable seamless cross-channel presentation of marketing content.
- Stakeholder & Partner Management: Build effective relationships across stakeholders to identify strategic areas of opportunity, socialize impact, build alignment, and drive effective
execution across a highly matrixed organization. To achieve this, you have a proven ability to vision cast and possess sharp storytelling and expertise to drive clarity and forward-thinking solutions in complex environments across a range of stakeholders. You can think big picture and understand the details that matter to ensure alignment and cohesion across client journeys and marketing workflows. You're great at building relationships with a range of stakeholders to understand business objectives, requirements and case studies to ensure the right value-based priorities and backlog. - Design System Governance: Maintain an effective governance framework to ensure the design system is leveraged appropriately across experiences while remaining adaptable to emerging needs and gaps. You can demonstrate your ability to operationalize - including cross-team resourcing and process, drive change management and collaboration through an efficient processes, strategic planning, resilient/scalable structure, and clear roles and responsibilities. You're grounded in structure with an ability to pivot, adapt, problem solve and govern all levels of a design system program, from specific design guidelines to macro global principles and approaches. Including a strong analytic perspective to help validate and optimize workflows through performance tracking/reporting.
- Program Communication & Activation: Manage formal design system communications and forums to promote greater understanding of the design system's priorities, showcase its impact, and drive value for Schwab's clients and business at multiple levels. You have a track record of excellent verbal and written communication skills that leads new thinking and drives adoption and action with others. You can effectively collaborate with a cross-functional teams of diverse experts-Developers, Designers, Content Strategists, Marketers and others-to build meaningful connections, coordinate program activities, align on outcomes, and deliver results
- Design System Program Performance: Articulate, measure, and report on program success metrics and effectiveness. Capture case studies that demonstrate the impact of the design system for the business and clients. Your rationale is always informed by client centric thinking, digital best practices, data and insights to ensure the effectiveness of the system to achieve business goals and enable the best experiences possible for clients and our system users. You bring a strong analytic perspective to help validate and optimize the system through performance tracking/reporting, testing and research. You understand how to tell the story of the design system's value for the business and clients. Ensure UI Design works hand in hand with UX experiences based on data and client insights by guiding and evaluating performance analytics, research and testing.
- Education & Training - Support adoption of design system by agency partners and experience teams through effective training and education resources and documentation (i.e., Figma, Storybook, DS Website, Guidance and consulting). Effectively collaborate with Developers, Designers, Content Strategists, Marketers and others and successfully build meaningful connections across all parties to plan, coordinate activities, align on outcomes and deliver results.
What you have
To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, related field or equivalent work experience.
- Collaborated with Beacon on creative reviews and system evolution, and/or has led the design and development of specific system artifacts (Figma files, standards or other deliverables).
- Lead or contributed to new or redesigned Schwab digital experiences leveraging the Beacon and Everest digital design systems across multiple channels.
- 6+ years of digital marketing experience required with formal training in design system product management, content enablement, UX/UI Design in Figma. Familiarity with various types of development and implementation.
- Experience with building and maintaining a Digital Design System. Specific experience with MarTech stacks and eco-systems a plus.
- Innate modern aesthetic with an ability to articulate design intent, content strategy, UX/UI best practices, in context of business objectives.
- Data driven and analytical focus; ability to drive new thinking and hypothesis, synthesize qualitative and quantitative data, identify feasible options and evaluate strategic trade-offs.
- Experience in a financial services or highly-regulated environment is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Highly adaptable, team player with superb verbal and written communication specifically, in framing problems, ability to present options and rationale clearly and concisely.
- Detail-oriented, organized and methodical approach with an ability to multitask, troubleshoot and coordinate multiple priorities, stakeholders and timelines to successful execution.
