About this job

The Senior Manager of Corporate Security is responsible for several key Asset Protection functions including:

  • Home Office Safety and Security
  • Executive/Leadership Security
  • Crisis Response Program

The Senior Manager of Corporate Security develops and managers our home office safety and security, including leading the full-time and part-time security officers, managing related systems and technology, developing and deploying awareness training, and directing site assessments and audits. The role is responsible for developing and managing the executive/leadership security program. And it plays an important role in crisis response, including leading the Emergency Response team, building out response plans and leading drills. The role stays abreast of industry trends, vendors, technology and best practices to continuously improve CarMax's program.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full-time front desk Security Officers and part-time officers.
  • Responsible for corporate office security strategy and design, including associate ingress/egress, as well as visitors, vendors and contractors.
  • Develops, manages and executes corporate security technology strategy, including CCTV, burglar alarm systems, card access, emergency notification system, etc. Supports and oversees these systems in other locations, including CarMax Finance, Dallas Tech Hub, Customer Experience Centers, etc. Travels to these locations on occasion.
  • Oversees routines to identify safety and security enhancements and develops plans to implement.
  • Conducts physical security assessments, audits and penetration testing. Collaborates with other departments, including CyberSecurity, T-comm, Human Resources, etc.
  • Responsible for third-party security coverage program for all CarMax locations.
  • Responsible for executive/leadership security, special event, travel, and escalated risk management, including developing and refining security protocols, officer training, threat assessments, awareness training, etc. Serves as primary point of contact to senior executives on security issues.
  • Leads cross functional Emergency Response team for home offices. Collaborates with department POCs in building out response plans. Supports other locations with their response plans including CarMax Finance, Dallas Tech Hub, Customer Experience Centers, etc.
  • Develops and leads regular drills and tabletop exercises for appropriate scenarios to plan for.
  • Develops multi-year roadmaps for all areas of responsibility in collaboration with manager, business partners, and vendors.
  • Makes effective, timely decisions that are critical to the business, including sensitive and escalated security concerns. Communicates decisions clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple critical issues with confidence and success. Escalates high sensirivity problems to senior leadership when appropriate.
  • Leads associate career development utilizing IDP process, setting sound, relevant and measurable business objectives.
  • Develops associates through timely performance feedback delivered during day-to-day observations, monthly file reviews, and annual performance evaluations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Purpose of the role

The Senior Manager of Corporate Security leads corporate office safety and security; executive/leadership security and crisis response. The Senior Manager of Corporate Security accomplishes this through leadership of the security officers, and a high degree of collaboration with key business partners to ensure the overall safety and security of CarMax associates and facilities. Individuals must possess exceptional Analysis and Decision Making, Results Focus and Teamwork.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Able to organize and prioritize work effectively, leveraging the team and other resources and managing own time to meet team goals/objectives
  • Must understand underlying security technologies and leverage them to maximize impact
  • Overnight travel required for site visits in other states

Education and/or Experience:

  • Four-year college degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years supervisory experience required.
  • 5+ years Corporate Security experience required.
  • 5+ years Executive Threat Assessment and/or Protection preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience of project management experience preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience with enterprise CCTV and other security systems preferred.
