We focus on innovation and opportunity -- on long term well being for our associates, customers, and communities. We dream in disruption -- at scale -- especially for those who have been underserved. This is the language of changing things for the better, of the future, and...of Capital One.

Community Finance's commitment to impact is clear. In 2022, the company provided more than $7.19 billion in community development loans, and we have been an industry leader in community development lending for many years. Our Community Finance team is one of the top providers of affordable housing opportunities in banking.

Community Finance is on a multi-stage journey to reimagine the way it operates through a more strategic approach to its core work and advocacy efforts, next-generation analytical and reporting capabilities, and innovation that leverages Capital One's scale and influence. This combination of being a well-managed, data-driven organization with core strengths in financing affordable housing is what will help distinguish Community Finance from its peers and deepen our impact.

The Community Development Financial Institution team within Community Finance partners primarily with the Small Business Bank team to manage CDFI relationships, originate capital, service and monitor the portfolio. As part of the CDFI Team, you will manage relationships, originate new money loans and renewals, have the opportunity to partner with other team members and program stakeholders on driving strategic business direction that leads to well-managed and sustainable performance. You will be asked to challenge our current well-managed processes to ensure they are scalable and effective.

In this role you will be working on a team that is truly changing banking for good, driving operational excellence for Capital One's CDFI program. You will have the opportunity to help guide the Community Finance team toward its vision of "Building inclusive, thriving, resident-centered communities that catalyze opportunity and promote well-being."

In this role, you'll be expected to demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Partnership: You are wired for collaboration and connection. You thrive in a matrix organization because you know that together we are better. You will work closely with colleagues across External Affairs, CF, SBB, and Capital One, and with external partners to cultivate and maintain relationships, as well as to drive partner understanding of and alignment with programming goals, and ensure faithful execution.
  • Strong judgment: You'll develop a deep end-to-end understanding of products and offerings, and how they fit into the larger ecosystem. You will exercise judgment and critical thinking to problem-solve challenges, and identify opportunities to improve program execution or our programmatic approach.
  • Executive communication skills: You will leverage strong written and oral communication skills to provide transparency to stakeholders on progress, outcomes, and any improvement opportunities surfaced.
  • Clear results orientation: You will display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. You should be able to execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment.

We want you if you are:

  • Impact-driven. You dream big. You desire to make the world a better place, and you get energy from working with others with similar passions to accomplish big, bold goals.
  • Intellectually Curious and a Learner. You ask why, you explore, you're not afraid to blurt out your crazy idea or follow a lead for weeks to find someone with an answer. You are comfortable with ambiguity, and a seeker of new challenges. You have a hunger to learn new things, all while exhibiting humility when the time comes to ask for help.
  • A Do-er. You're biased toward action, you try things and sometimes you fail. You can get around roadblocks and stay focused on Enterprise goals. You're well organized, able to multitask and able to prioritize your work. You pay attention to detail but also can see the big picture.
  • A Communicator & Influencer. You can communicate complex ideas clearly regardless of your audience. You always can rally associates to work with you.
  • Passionate & Customer Focused. You have a desire and ability to connect with our external and internal customers and stakeholders to fully understand their needs. You care about doing what's best (not what's easiest) for the community and for Capital one's associates and business. You don't shy away from hard conversations or nuanced decision making, in your drive toward the best outcomes.
  • A Team Player. You enjoy working with diverse people and driving the team toward a common goal. You have the ability to put the team before yourself and establish long-lasting relationships.
