Director, Chief of Staff - Enterprise Risk Management & Risk Management Risk Office

Enterprise Risk Management and Risk Management Risk Office (ERM+RMR) is seeking a Director-level Chief of Staff to join the team. The incumbent will report to the Senior Vice President leading ERM + RMR, and will lead the Chief of Staff team within ERM+RMR. The incumbent will serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for ERM + RMR, and will support the full SLT in running the management system as well as coordinating the implementation of business strategy across the entire organization. This will be achieved through developing and maintaining business routines, partnering with the SLT to "run the department" and leading a grass roots team focused on maintaining ERM + RMR as a destination workplace. This "general manager" role oversees the organization and planning of development and team-building associate-focused events for the full team, and a buttoned up business approach to strategic planning, finances, HR matters and the management system.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute leadership routines to support the organization, including, but not limited to administration of Leadership Huddles, Monthly Business Reviews, Goal check-ins, All Hands meetings
  • Lead periodic strategic planning for ERM+RMR, and measurement and reporting of the team's progress against the plan
  • Lead budget and headcount planning in partnership with Finance, HR and the SLT, including a focus on aligning business unit activities to financial objectives
  • Partner with HR and Communications to drive strategic and talent efforts, including performance management, talent management and culture and engagement initiatives
  • Direct associate engagement agenda, including but not limited to: training initiatives, team fun, recognition and rewards programs, All Associate Survey analysis and improvement plans
  • Partner with Communications lead to execute an associate communications plan including monthly newsletters, event hype emails, organization announcements, up to date Pulse content
  • Partner with department head to maintain a regular cadence of communications and preparation for monthly sessions with Risk Senior Leadership
  • Partner with HR for organizational tracking such as promotions, spans, attrition, open roles
  • Drive horizontal and business critical efforts, including among other things: coordination with Workplace Solutions and other Chief of Staff teams on office decisions, and planning efforts with other key business partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 6 years of Project or Program Management experience
  • At least 4 years of experience in financial services
  • At least 4 years of Chief of Staff experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in Corporate Strategy or Strategy Consulting
  • At least 3 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years experience in building or running an associate engagement program
  • At least 3 years of supporting or driving department level strategy and business objectives
  • Exposure to and understanding of risk management
  • Proactive self-starter, highly organized and excels in creating structure and order
  • Experience in building relationships, influencing, and driving actions with a wide range of associates and leaders across levels
  • Exceptional executive-facing verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative and broad problem solver, with ability to thrive in a fast-paced business while balancing business priorities
  • Analytically rigorous and intellectually curious

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Chief of Staff

Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Chief of Staff

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
