This position will provide leadership and technical support to global Process Safety and Risk Management programs and activities. This position will be responsible for ensuring the continued improvement and execution of safe designs, operations, and maintenance throughout the BMS Global network, including contract organizations supporting the Global Environment Occupational Health Safety and Sustainability (EOHSS) Loss Prevention and Risk Management leader. This is a full-time permanent staff position within the BMS Global EOHSS, Safety Center of Excellence and Technical Services group.

The candidate must understand technology, engineering, design, equipment, standards, operations, and maintenance operations. The candidate must be able to function independently and apply engineering judgment and decision making with minimum supervision. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have a demonstrated ability to interact with others worldwide comfortably and diplomatically and lead global and multi-discipline teams. The candidate must be able to develop process safety and risk management goals and objectives and communicate/execute project delivery for engineering and business projects. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize work while developing multiple programs simultaneously. Must use independent judgment and discretion in problem-solving and decision making and excellent organization skills with attention to detail to manage workflow in a timely manner.

This position will encompass the following primary responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and support to Site EOHSS staff in a global network, to ensure awareness and successful execution of BMS Corporate safety expectations in pharmaceutical manufacturing, research & development, and office operations.
  • Lead the EOHSS Capital Project management oversight program and related initiatives to ensure appropriate levels of EOHSS engagement, technical review, and successful designs.
  • Provide technical direction and support to business leads, engineering, and EOHSS staff to identify and prioritize environmental, health, and safety related risk improvement initiatives including property damage and business interruption related risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with project managers and other EOHSS professionals to ensure high quality safety by design in capital projects, site level initiatives, and EOHSS program development.
  • Provides technical safety support and leadership to EOHSS staff as necessary for the development, interpretation, and improvement of safety related subject matters.
  • Provides technical support and direction for the development and execution of a Global emergency response program
  • Provides primary technical support to BMS Site EOHSS staff for the development and execution of the Global Process Safety program.
  • Coordinates and supports EOHSS reviews of BMS facility projects ensuring the quality, accuracy, consistency, and completeness of designs as to engineering principles, and compliance with EOHSS requirements.
  • Supports the development of Global and Site EOHSS policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Supports the Loss Prevention and Risk Management lead in prioritizing and reducing network related risks associated with property damage and business interruption.
  • Supports Global EOHSS leadership with strategic initiatives and projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 7- 10+ years professional industry practice in industrial safety practice, engineering, and/or related fields
  • Experienced professional with a strong and diverse background in engineering, technology, process safety, and project management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of EHS related regulatory and good engineering practices including electrical safety, flammable liquids, combustible dust handling, process safety management, building codes, and construction safety.
  • Proven team leadership experience with a courteous and collaborative mindset
  • BS/MS engineering, safety, environmental, or other technical discipline
  • CSP or PE preferred.
  • Active participation in related professional organizations and industry initiatives
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple work projects and demands to ensure successful completion.

Travel

  • Limited travel of up to 25% may be necessary.
