Temporary Practice Area Operations Manager - Climate & Sustainability (12m)

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Climate & Sustainability (C&S) is BCG's fastest-growing Practice Area (PA) and a driving force for BCG's ambition to become the most positively impactful company in the world.
As part of our commitment to protecting the planet and helping clients achieve sustainable competitive advantage, our experts cover the full range of climate and sustainability topics, including decarbonization, green business build, sustainable operations and circular economy, regenerative agriculture, transition financing, adaptation and resilience and others.
As a Practice Area Manager in BCG's Climate & Sustainability Practice Area, you will be in charge of the effective and professional planning and delivery of the PA's day-to-day operations and core support processes. In addition, you will lead and drive large ad-hoc projects and Practice Area events. You will collaborate closely with our PA Senior Coordinator, our Management Team and your colleagues in other PAs and BCG's functions.

Key responsibilities include:

Drive the continued professionalization of our core processes and infrastructure across the PA, including budget planning/tracking, affiliation management, key communication platforms/tools upkeep etc. Drive for innovation, ensure best practice exchange and enable our various functions to collaborate effectively (e.g. between the global PA and our regional teams).

Lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of large meetings and events (e.g. Leadership & Management Team offsites, Practice Area meetings and other BCG events), including on-site event management, handling the interface to BCG's Meetings/Events team and leading the on-site support team. Own budget management, steering committee meeting preparation and facilitation, virtual meeting hosting etc. Ensure each of our meetings brings our "PA DNA" to life and is delivered in line with our convictions and commitments (e.g. regarding emission reduction)

Act as the "PA Concierge" who enables our affiliates to navigate the C&S PA and network and broader BCG organization effectively

Own the Practice Area's budget management, including regular reporting and year-end wrap-up activities

YOU'RE GOOD AT

Ramping up in a new role quickly and independently

Driving complex, ambiguous projects, events or processes that routinely require independent judgment, trade-offs or prioritization

Staying calm under pressure, prioritizing effectively and driving to results

Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation, translating those into actionable plans and gaining buy-in for their execution

Independently collaborating with other functions to find solutions or establish best practices

Structuring and interpreting large data sets and drawing conclusions for leadership discussions based on your own analysis

Preparing analysis/recommendations for leadership discussions, in well structured, easy-to-understand output materials (e.g. Powerpoint slides)

Establishing a shared view on what creates values for your stakeholders

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)

6-8 years of relevant experience, preferably in a professional services environment
Master's degree preferred
Ability to independently resolve diverse problems
Exceptional organizational, planning and project management skills;
Strong analytical skills (e.g. for business reporting tasks) and a structured way of thinking and communicating
A positive, high-energy, can-do attitude and friendly communication style
Ability to effectively influence senior stakeholders, in virtual, multi-cultural settings
Ability to multi-task and operate effectively in a matrix organization
Very strong written and verbal communication skills (incl. native or near-native English skills)
Advanced mastery of Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Trello, Slack
A genuine passion for the Climate & Sustainability domain (deep content expertise is not a condition for this role)

YOU'LL WORK WITH
Your key stakeholders in this role are the Global Practice Management Executive Director, as well as the broader C&S management team. You will be working alongside PA Managers and Coordinators (within C&S and across other PAs) and colleagues in adjacent BCG functions like Marketing, Finance, Meetings & Events etc. You will also interact directly with Managing Directors and Partners, e.g. in the context of PA Meeting or Leadership Team meeting organization.
