Role description and opportunities

The Social Media Manager is a savvy and creative digital storyteller who will help drive the development, coordination and optimization of content across BNY Mellon's external social channels. This individual will collaborate with colleagues across our businesses, as well as subject matter experts, to plan and execute content and campaigns designed to modernize brand perception and drive profitable growth. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of trends and best practices across all social media platforms, experience developing compelling social media content and familiarity with social media publishing tools. This individual also will have experience managing a team of knowledgeable practitioners and working closely with graphic designers, videographers and external agencies as needed. The position sits within the Corporate Marketing Center of Excellence and reports to the Director of Content Strategy and Channel Execution.

Key responsibilities include the following:
  • Provide strategic input, create content and execute campaigns across BNY Mellon's branded social media channels: LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube
  • Plan and oversee social media content creation in a variety of engaging formats based on audience, channel and best practices (e.g., videos, long-form posts, animated gifs, carousels, etc.).
  • Oversee the efforts of the corporate social media team to elevate our presence on key channels, drive followership and increase engagement.
  • Identify and advocate for social media best practices; stay current on new technologies and industry trends and drive the adoption of innovative strategies and solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to internal and external approval processes, compliance, audit and regulatory processes and documentation.
  • Ensure consistency in brand voice and visual style across all social channels, while recognizing the unique audience and approach for each channel
  • Utilize social media publishing tools to coordinate and schedule content.
  • Oversee employee social media ambassador programs.
  • Provide guidance and training to executives and other employees interested in leveraging social media for business purposes.
  • Analyze metrics, share insights and adjust plans with a focus on continuous improvement.
A successful candidate should ideally have these qualifications :
  • Strong mix of creative, analytic and prioritization skills with demonstrated ability to translate complex concepts into compelling digital storytelling.
  • Experience using social media publishing and content management platforms, design tools such as InDesign, Illustrator and/or PhotoShop, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent writer who is skilled at tailoring content to specific audiences and channels
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, showing flexibility as social plans and goals evolve.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to analyze, critique and offer recommendations for content improvement.
  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industry a plus
  • Experience managing a team preferred.
  • 7-10 years of social media experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $95,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
